Vaccinations... are you doing them?

Hi ladies. I want to delay vaccinations for my new son. I just finished reading Dr. Sears book on delayed vaccinations. I don't want to get the Hep B, the influenza, and a few other vacs. We went to the pediatrician this week and he said that if we didn't want to do the vacs, we should find a new pediatrician! I dont' know what to do b/c I can't seem to find another one accepting new patients.
What are you all doing with vaccinations? Any suggestions?

We choose not to vax, which has made finding a ped. a little difficult. Stand your ground. There are ped's that will accept a non vax decision. Be wary about the "acknowledgement agreements" that some ped's request you sign. Many of them say that you are knowingly putting the health of your child at risk (which is an admittance of neglect) and could be used against you at a later date. Good luck.

We do not vax. I, myself, have never been vax'd.

You could always look into a naturapathic doctor. They can do the same check ups that a ped would do, and probably with a bit more attention and care to you and your lo.

I thought I'd add too, if it's really a problem with your ped, and you can't find a new one. Just tell them that you've choosen to get your vaxes through the local health department. It's kinda lying, but it's really none of his business.

We don't vax at all.

We don't have a pediatrician (we have a GP) and we have made our decision clear and he respects that, even though he disagrees. We also don't do "Well Baby Visits" so he's only ever even seen DS a couple times. We've had DS to the ER a couple times (the wait to get in to the GP is 4 months) and they've never given us any problem.

I really recommend reading Aviva Jill Romm's Vaccination: A Thoughtful Parents Guide.

we don't vax either, and see a homeopath instead of an MD. Luckily I just found a md who is also a homeopath for a couple well baby visits with this lo. But when ds was a baby, we had a really hard time finding a doc to see him b/c of our choice not to vax and ended up driving an hour to the nearest city just to see an md! So annoying! But I agree, stand your ground!

We've decided to selectively and delay vax. I am lucky to have found a pediatrician who is supportive of our decision. We did not do Hep B at the hospital and they just had us sign a waiver. Dr Sears has a list of pediatricians on his website and that is actually where I found my pediatrician. I also highly recommend his book, I am still reading it but it is really informative. Aviva's book is great as well.

we don't vax. I don't really have much advice to offer on the ped though Ours would prefer that we vax but is ok with the fact that we don't, if that makes sense. I'm sure he'll bring it up again with DD2 but with DD1 its become a simple "still not vaxing? (nope) ok" at check ups.

I haven't vaxed any of our kids and, oddly enough, I've never been given a hard time about it. We don't have a ped. right now. I have had different issues w/peds. They think they know everything: So we see a family practitioner.

We don't vax, either. I would dump the ped and find yourself a good family doctor or GP. And a naturopath. Dont sign anything!

I selectively vaxed dd and am probably going to get even fewer for new babe. I have been lucky to find a really great family practicioner who is OK with my decisions. She especially understands my point of view on Hep B, Varicella, and Flu and doesn't even really recommend them.

I would post in your tribal area to see if anyone in your locale can give you a rec. Good luck! I'm sure you can find a doc.

I've noticed that family practice docs are a lot less biased than pedetricians. I just established care w/ one and I love his whole practice. (I delay/selective vax)

We selectively vax which means we do tetanus (or Td) starting around age 2 or 3. Our ped is great about it - of course, she's pro vax, but doesn't give us crap about it. Just lets us know what's going around (we have measles and rubella in the area at the moment, for instance).

After vaxing my first, we decided to look into delay/selective vaxing, which is what we'll do. I have Dr Sears book, but need to get cracking on it. I don't know how our doctor will be. He's a family doctor, but is young and seems a little "by the books" about things... but ya never know! We'll see our midwife until Hudson is a month old, THEN go to the doctor's. So we'll at least be able to decide before then. And if he gives us issues, we'll look elsewhere. But considering he sees Amish/Mennonite patients as well.... I don't know.

And when I say he's by the books... he's never pressured us into anything. Just seems like he's afraid to make his own opinions on some things. But when he recommends something I don't like... I don't do it!

There are frequently posts in my "tribal area" forum about no-vax or delayed-vax friendly doctors, and I know many people who've found their kids' Dr. through MDC

Wow, this sounds familiar. We don't vax at all and we have to find a new ped now, too.

no matter what, find a new ped
We are doing delayed vax, and our peds office is fine with that.

We are doing a delayed/selective vax schedule. My family doc is ok with it. He even helped with my descision to not do MMR with ds1.
When the health nurse came this last week she and I had a good chat about them and she and I agreed to share some info regarding vaxing. I could not believe I actually found a public health nurse who didn't shove them down my throat. It was so refreshing.

I hope you can find a new ped, sounds like this one isn't a good match at all. Can HE recommend a new ped for you or even agree to keep you on until someone else opens up.

just some ideas..
