Up all hours of the night?

Please tell me that I'm not alone in this and that it will get better.

DS is 6 days old - he pretty much sleeps all of the time except from about 12:30 a.m. ish to 4:30 a.m. ish. I'll feed him, hold him, rock him, sway him and nothing can get him back to sleep for more than a few minutes.

Any advice or tips? I'm just hoping that he will eventually understand the difference between night and day.

He will learn. That doesn't neccessarily mean you'll get sleep though. if he's sleeping during the day then you try to sleep - at least lay down and close you eyes. FWIW, my 8 week old is just starting to sleep regularly at night.

Yep -- this sounds about right for most newborns. Just have patience and expect to be up for those hours. You'll definitely need to sleo during the day, too.

Sounds right on for newborns. He'll figure it out in time.

Remember, the rocking movements of your body during the day lulled him to sleep and your still sleep would have been his awake time. It's a big change for littles.

DS didn't regularly sleep for months and months, and I don't think we qualified as sleeping through the night until he was closer to 1 year.

There's a SEARS Baby Sleep book that is really nice and reassuring. You could probably get a used copy cheap if you were interested.
