I guess I'll share my update here with the gory details. I went in for an US right at the beginning of my period (is that CD something? What does the CD stand for?)

The technician explained everything and even had me insert the dildo-thing myself. I thought that was pretty good. I have 19 follicles which I guess is really good, considering my age. They said it was 7 on one side and 12 on the other. The side with 7 also has one big follicle, 10 mm?, but it's not a cyst, they think it's leftover from last cycle and will go away, I guess.

I tried to be all cagey when I saw the technician taking all these measurements and pictures of my big follicle. "So, if they find a cyst - what do they do? Give you medicine or wait for it to go away?"

She said they give medicine but that wasn't a cyst, just a leftover follicle. I know the technicians aren't really supposed to tell you what they see or offer any diagnosis.

I have something else on Tuesday - some kind of test. And then the IUI should be Wednesday or Thursday. I have to check for a surge on my home predictor kit. DH is out buying sticks for me to pee on. I'm to call when I get the surge and then they will schedule time for me to come in. And I have some kind of hormone trigger shot that I have to get filled. Apparently this is also used in fad diets and is now hard to get but they gave me the names of 2 pharmacies that have it.

That's all the news for now. We head out on vacation in the last week of July.

Hi all. I'm having my first IUI on Friday. I did 5 days of clomid which ended this past saturday. I also had my hsg yesterday and had a bit of a fever last night and am very crampy today. I will do my trigger shot of Ovidrel tonight. What can I expect on Friday. It's my first time with an IUI. I"m a bit nervous. I'm also extremely crampy - more so than ever before.

Here were my numbers from today
ESTRADIOL 730 pg/ml
LH 2.17 mlU/ml
Progesterone, Serum 0.418 None


The RE also said I would be taking progesterone suppositories starting right aftger the IUI. Does everyone do this? My progesterone was really good last cycle - but not so good the cycle before.

Any info you want to share would be great!

I'm beginning to think I'm missing out on something. I'm on CD6 right now. Period just ended last night. A tad shorter then the usual 7 days, but I'm also about 3 days earlier then usual with the period in the first place. But I don't go in for any kind of tests until the vaginal u/s next Wed (CD12).

Is it because I'm unmedicated? All I have to pick up is a syringe of Ovidrel on my way to the appointment.

Angi, I don't think you are missing anything. My first IUI was unmedicated and not even U/S monitored. Just using the OPKs. GL, and keep asking your questions!

cori, do you still have a fever? Did they give you a script for doxycycline or another abx? my doc told me to call if I had a fever or tenderness after the HSG, because there is an increased risk of infection since they're shooting stuff up there... I don't want to scare you, but if you still have a fever, you should probably call them.

Not everyone takes progesterone, but many do. I think if you've had a lower number in the past, they want to make sure you have enough prog on board.

As far as the IUI on Friday, I'll tell you what we have to do: DH produces the sample at home, into the cup they give you. Write your name on the cup. Bring it to them as quickly as possible. They will ask you what time it was collected, if DH is on any meds, any problems, etc. You will probably have to sign a form. They take the cup and begin washing the sperm. You will probably have to wait in the waiting room for 30-45 minutes. Once the sperm is washed, you will go into the exam room. It's just like a pelvic exam, feet up in stirrups, scoot down to the end of the table. The doctor (or nurse) will insert the speculum, swab off any mucus on your cervix, and then insert a small catheter into the cervical os. This can barely be felt, but you might have some minor cramping. They slowly inject the sperm, then withdraw the catheter. You can rest on the table afterwards, esp. if you had cramping. Then you are done! It's really not too bad.

Ellien, CD is cycle day (CD1 is the first day of your period). They probably looked at your antral follicles on CD3 (or so, it can be CD5). This is to let them know about how many follicles start the journey to becoming the dominant follicle which is the one to release the egg. At the early part of your cycle, they don't really want to see one huge one yet. Later on, right before ovulation, they are looking for one dominant one (or more if you are on ovulation induction drugs). The number of antral follicles indicates something about your ovarian reserve. If you have a lot of eggs left, you will have a lot of antral follicles. That's the idea, at least. So a high number is good. Does that make sense?

Leah, yay for an awesome IUI! Those are some good numbers! I had the worst pain in the @ss after my trigger shot last cycle... I'm getting mine tomorrow, I expect it to hurt just as bad. It does go away after a day or two though, right?

poetgirl, thanks for the info on the polyp, it's great to get some perspective on it. I was so freaked out last night. I felt a lot better after reading your post. I talked to my RE about it today, and he said it's not worth canceling the cycle. He wants me to get it removed if we don't get pg this cycle, before moving on to the next thing (IVF!). He said if we aren't successful after 4 IUIs, it doesn't make sense to keep trying them, and injectables won't help much. He does mini IVF so maybe that will be an option for us. His clinic doesn't have any more space for the August cycle, so it would be September or October. That gives us some time to get the polyp removed and figure out the finances.

So sorry to hear about your DH's counts. that's terrible. I'm so sorry. At least you know it's been high before, so it will be high again. It just sucks to have to wait for one more thing.

blueyezz4, hope you can throw away the clomid while staring at your beautiful BFP soon!

oh, FYI, my hCG shots are $38 but they are not pre-filled, they have to be mixed and pulled into the syringe. I get them at the hospital pharmacy which is by far cheaper than both Target and Walgreens.

I get my trigger shot tomorrow, then IUIs Friday and Saturday. I had 3 big follicles today, 2 mature (19mm) and 1 almost there (17mm).

corikodjo - I had to take progesterone injections every 3 days after IUI for 9 days. I think they just want to ensure that your lining gets thick and remains thick to sustain the implantation. GL to you!

biomama - It's my first blood test after starting the injections again this cycle. It's been a bit of a screwed up cycle, but it seems I'm back on track. the nurse called to say that my levels are increasing nicely and the want me back tomorrow morning for another blood test and an u/s. So that is positive. We'll see what the sitch is then and how many follies there are this month.

GL with your IUI this weekend. What timings after the trigger do they do the IUI's?

tonight i gave myself the trigger shot. my hands were shaking and it was hard to push the plunger part (i can't think of the correct word right now). my dh did not want to be there while i did it. does anyone elses partner not want to be there? i actually preferred doing it privately but since my hands were shaking it would have been nice to have some help. i think he wants to pretend that we are not in this moment where his wife has to give herself a shot to get pregnant. i am frustrated with him at the moment though. :

Hi Bio! Thanks so much for the info. The fever went away only after a few hours. I did speak to my physician and she wasn't worried as long as it didn't persisit. It was also a very low grade fever. I will be taking antibiotics for the IUI just in case! I am really excited about the IUI. Thanks so much for the info. I did my trigger shot last night - so hopefully it'll all get timed perfectly. We Bd last night just in case.

I am lucky enough to have a neighbor who is a nurse practitioner and she came over and did it. My DH is not so into needles and I was ok with him not being there. He is coming with me for the IUI tomorrow. Looks like a lot of us are having friday IUIs!

corikodjo - I was put on progesterone suppositories during my last cycle. I also had taken Clomid. My RE told me that clomid although it stimulates your follicles to grow it makes your lining thin - hence the progesterone to thicken it up. There not all that much fun, but...better than having a thin lining I guess.

I had my progesterone tested today and now I wait to hear if I need to go on progesterone suppositories yet again this cycle. I'm getting anxious, VERY anxious. I'm a week away from the pregnancy blood test and I'm trying to figure out if I should do a home test one of the days next week. I hate to see a negative line but I have ZERO patience too. It's a terrible combination. So far my boobs are super sensitive and sore. I've had a little cramping as well. I usually don't feel any pain or any symptoms of AF so I'm a little optimistic that maybe these are signs of pregnancy...but I refuse to get my hopes up. The high is great but the low is so low if i'm not. I'm trying to stay as even as possible.

Hi Kiki. I have ZERO patience too. I haven't even had my IUI yet and I'm looking at when I could possibly test before the 23rd of July blood test.

AAM - I'm definitely about to ovulate. The line on the OPK was the darkest I've ever seen it this afternoon -- I guess the Orvidel works - huh?

so ... I havent' been following this thread because I ddin't know I was getting in IUI until yesterday. But... are you supposed to have cramps? I was fine immediately following, but now (8 hours later) I'm cramping like crazy. I'm deeply unhappy and uncomfortable and the tylenol isn't doing anything for me. Argh.

Hi Ladies, well, I went for my blood test and u/s this morning, and I have a whopper follie at 22.5mm! I am so excited! So now I have to wait for my blood test results and then they'll tell me when IUI is happening, but I think it will definitely be tomorrow (Sat) or Sunday.

At our clinic, they do IUI 12hrs after trigger, so I asked the nurse if they would do it at 30hrs and she said "oh, you're obviously doing a lot of research on the net, are you?" She made me feel guilty But with a follie this big, I'm happy to do the IUI 12hrs after.

GL for all the IUI's happening this weekend and, for all of you already in your 2WW, just know that you're a few days ahead of us in the waiting game

Hi guys..
I'm new here and was hoping I could jump in!

This is our 3rd IUI, first two on clomid, this one on injectibles (gonal-f). I had 9 follicles on gonal f; 3 were fully mature measuring at 20 and one was mid way at 16...the rest were small ones. So...there's 4 decent ones though so its got me a bit nervous but really excited too! I triggered last night and had my first IUI this morning and I have another tomorrow morning. DH's sperm has been all over the place...some really low and some really high but this mornings was 30 million post wash! I'm a little nervous tomorrows will be low since he gave a sample today but we'll see!

Do you check cervix position? It "drops" pretty soon after ovulation and firms up. You could also take your temp tomorrow morning upon waking before your IUI. Even if you never temp, if it's above 97.8, it may indicate ovulation. But remember like Biomama I think said, the egg lives for 12-24 hrs (correct me if wrong), so it would most likely still be around in the morning IF that happened and perhaps you could demand your IUI tomorrow morning on that basis.

hi girls! hi Jelly_Bean! GL with your 2nd IUI! We have MF IF, so DH's 2nd samples are never quite as good as his 1st, but they are usually good enough for IUI.

snowbell, yay for cycle buddies! (and also DLT, and Cori, and Jellybean?)

I am getting totally paranoid about our timing. I had my trigger shot yesterday morning, and by U/S my 3 follies hadn't popped yet. But, we aren't doing the IUI until 3pm today... I know rationally it's fine: after triggershot, it takes 24-36 hours to ovulate, and the egg can survive for 12-24 hours. Right???? I hope we didn't miss it. We haven't even BDed this cycle (new job for DH, no time, it seems . I need to relax! AHHH!

DLT, I have gotten my trigger after I already ovulated (last cycle I o-ed on CD13, and they could tell by U/S). They gave it to me anyway because it helps keep the corpus luteum nice and strong. (also, it prevents early testing ). I'm not sure you will be able to tell if you ovulated within that time frame. As others suggested, you can take your temp, but if you haven't been charting, it's not so useful. I also recommend checking CP and CM. I also suggest not worrying about it and knowing that you will O and you will have your IUI! GL!

songbird45, poor thing! Ouch! I have had cramps with my IUIs, but usually right after and they go away pretty quickly. Maybe try putting something warm on your belly?

cori, GL! So exciting! Yes, the hCG looks just like LH to your OPK, so it will be very dark! I don't even test after the trigger shot anymore, I just write in my chart that I got a + OPK.

Kiki, that was so funny! The best line was that you shouldn't take a photo of your cervical mucus. I still remember the exact moment I got my first EWCM (it had been several cycles of no EW, ever), and I was so excited! I ran out of the bathroom with it on my finger to show DH, who was somehow not as thrilled as I was. I think I stretched it between my fingers for like 5 minutes before finally washing my hands.
