Finally in labor *update* :) + pics

Hello, anyone else awake? I'm finally in "real" labor after my water broke at 6pm. I'm having hard contractions that I have to breathe through every 7 minutes. When should I go to the hospital? Everyone else is sleeping, thank goodness. I tried lying down and rested for a few hours but it hurts too much to have a contraction lying down. My ob said to come in at 6am anyway (it's 3am here), but I wonder if I should wait that long. Well I guess I'll just keep timing them.

*update*

It's a girl!!! Her name is E. S. and she's such a sweet baby.
6 lbs 15 ounces, 19 inches

I ended up getting to the hospital at 6am and she was born at 9:05am on 6/29. Sounds so short but I had a super long early first stage labor that was so tiring. Because my water had broken at 6pm the night before the ob wanted me started on pitocin when I checked in. Everything sort of snowballed after that--getting stuck with a painful iv on the side of my wrist and a dumb external fetal monitor that kept getting tangled in my legs when I wanted to squat through contractions, and the elastic band around my stomach that made me puke all over the bed. Ha ha at least I didn't have to change the bedding. I was so annoyed that I had to lie on the bed when my contractions were so painful! I finally got to use the birthing ball and was able to stand for the rest of my labor.

Anyway I was only 3 cm when I checked in at 6am, and at 8:30am still only 6 cms and the contractions were killing me. If they went on any longer I would have caved and gotten some drugs, seriously. And I am not a drug person AT ALL! Probably the pit making them super strong. This is when it gets really dumb--I wanted to push a few contractions after the nurse checked me (I was at 6) and she kept telling me not to. People started running in, I think about 5 of them, yelling about getting someone there to get the baby out. My ob wasn't there yet and like 3 people were telling me not to push. Ok stupid have you ever tried NOT pushing when you have to push? I just ignored them and pushed anyway, LOL. A midwife came running in as the baby crowned and there was a lot of hoopla and commotion. I don't get the big deal, really. I was more pissed at the people telling me not to push. I think it was funny how I was surprisingly nice through all of this, sort of an out of body experience. Crazy how I dilated 4 cms in 30 minutes!

I was also annoyed they cut the cord right away, but I got the main 4 things I wanted--no epidural, no c-sec, no vaxxes or other stuff, and my placenta. So I feel really good about all of it! Of course things didn't go exactly as I had planned but overall it was a nice experience for a hospital birth (my greatest fear). Dh took my placenta home and it's safe in the fridge, and a healthy baby is sleeping on my lap.

She passed all her blood sugar tests (no formula) and so have I, so we can probably go home tomorrow. I'm so sad my dd1 has to spend her first night away from me in her whole life, but it's ok so far. She was there the whole time and did great just watching tv and playing.

I got 2 stitches and everything feels pretty good down there. I even found a sitz bath that I am soo taking home with me. Did you know they have disposable underwear at the hospital? It is great! Ok so disposable anything is not good, but at least I don't have to wash it. Well I better go get some sleep while I can. Thanks so much for all the well wishes!
Liane

PS I was devastated about risking out of my homebirth for GD, but I was able to have a relatively nice experience at the hospital. It's not impossible!

I wouldn't go in until you feel like you aren't getting much of a break. It can sometimes take a while to get close to transition. If they are only a couple minutes apart and lasting more than 45 sec each, than you know you're getting there. CONGRATS and GOOD LUCK!! I'm a bit jealous I'm across the ocean so it's daylight here, keep me posted!
