Ductal yeast

Thread Starter
I have been doing searches and I am getting a little here and a little there but sometimes I am confused as to what is yeast advice and what pertains more specifically to ductal yeast... or is it one in the same. What I have picked up so far is that you treat it the same but diflucan is necessary for DY. I have a friend with DY. It is her first baby. She had pain for 6 weeks. Then her doc said she had DY and she may be taking the meds for 4 to 6 weeks. She is in excruciating pain. I don't know if she can ride this out... she has mentioned weaning more than once. Whatever you can offer...I will be grateful for.

Taking meds for an extended time doesn't mean it will take that long to work, it's just a long therapy course to ensure it doesn't come back! It's important that the dose be high enough - 400 for the first dose, then 200 mg daily.

Yeast...btdt.

I wanted to stop bf'ing because of this pain too, but I just kept on. It started in my ducts, but the worst pain was on my nipples. For the ductal yeast, she'll take the diflucan, but she can also take Grapefruit Seed Extract pills, I didn't try the pills because the diflucan got rid of the ductal yeast for me. But the yeast on my nipples was excruciating. Someone here described it as threading a needle and thread through your nipples, or putting your nipples in a vice grip. Both of these are very accurate.
I did EVERYTHING, so I really don't know which treatment worked. I did vinegar rinses, GSE rinses, micinazole, nystatin cream, lotrimin, gentian violet, disposable nursing pads, no bra or shirt as much as possible.
Yeast SUCKS.
There is great info on kellymom, and in the battling thrush thread.
DS is 9 weeks, and I have been in pain the whole time for one reason or another. Just tell her she can make it....don't give up mama!! Tell her about this site also, it's what saved me.
