Anyone not getting ultrasounds? - Page 3

I will probably just get one in the second semester. Interesting enough, my first pregnancy when I went to an ob, he did one at every single appointment.

I've heard that from a bunch of women. I think they buy the machine, then feel like they have to justify the expense so they do multiple ultrasounds just because they can. Personally, I don't think ob's should be doing ultrasounds at all. Most of them don't even remotely have the training for it.

I m/c my first and everything was "Fine" until the week before my u/s at 14weeks pregnant. I began to bleed badly so I went to the ER, there I foundout that my cervix was bleeding but I "wasn't" m/c'ing. They sent me to my doctor the next morning who after doing an u/s sound let me know that what she was seeing wasn't right but she would like to do another u/s in three days to see if anything had changed before she let me give up on the baby. I knew at that moment it was dead but I had my second u/s three days later.
The baby should have been 15 weeks along and it was the size of a 6week fetus and no heart beat.
I had what is called a "missed" miscarriage. The baby had dead but my body didn't reject it and so it was turning into a tumor.
They wanted to do a D&C right away but I waited a week to see if my body would do it naturally and it didn't. My body was behaving as if the baby was still alive, I was still growing and still feeling pregnant...
I had to have a D&C and my Doctor believed that I may never m/c "correctly" that if it were ever to happen again that I would probably go along normally until my first u/s OR until I went into shock.

This has gotten very long lol I didn't intend for it to but I wanted to pass on my story and why I needed u/s with my first and why I need one with this one.
Of course I am hopeing this pregnancy goes more naturally then my son's did.

I also had a missed miscarriage and found out at my 14-week app't that our little girl had passed at around 11 weeks. Now, I feel so anxious about even going to the dr. that I haven't even made an app't.

As far as getting u/s's, this thread has given me lots to think about. My OB is u/s-happy but I don't want to get "routine" u/s's everytime I see him!

I had a 6-week (or there-about) u/s with ds to check the HB. I must admit it was pretty cool seeing the little bean so tiny Then we had the 18-20 week u/s, but didn't find out the gender (on purpose). THEN we had one when I was 38 week or so, to find out 'how big the baby was' (hindsight I must admit that I was really surprised how close it (probably) was based on ds's birth weight, but I still don't trust that 'measurement'. Also, each appointment was complete with doppler (again, hindsight

Okay, so my pregnancy with ds was with an OB, and I really just followed his lead. This time, we're going midwife homebirth and we'll likely have the 18-20 week u/s, but tbh, I don't really feel that anything will be wrong. DH is (softly) pushing for finding out the gender, and I'm kind of on the fence.

I would opt out of the first trimester one unless there was an issue with a past miscarriage. My SIL miscarried and is now pregnant and needed to know. She was climbing the walls. The baby is fine but she has some cervical bleeding that they want to check up on in 4 weeks.

As for me, I had the first trimester ultrasound and the nuchal and the 18 week. ultrasound and I had planned on that being all (this was before I knew I could even decline the 1st trimester one). But then I lost a bit of mucous plug and before I knew it, my OB (who I later left) had pulled out the ultrasound wand for a quick check. THen at the end of my pregnancy I started measuring small, so another ultrasound! (things were fine). So I just think things can get quickly out of control with it. I had a normal, healthy pregnancy, there was no way I needed that many USs.

For the next pregnancy, I plan on the 18 week one, but that's it.

I lost mine they said at around 4-6weeks along so I carried him for another 10weeks after he had died. It was very hard dealing with that information and while I do not want as many u/s as I did with my DS Walter I do want one to make sure the baby is ok...
I know how you feel but I will say when I when had my first appt with DS after the m/c and I saw my "jumping bean" it made me feel ten times better and I was able to enjoy so much more of the pregnancy though I still worried until 20weeks.
