Would you take flagyl while nursing?

It's a decision you're going to have to make for yourself, as there's not really a clear answer. Is it a one time dose or a course of therapy? What are you treating? Is there another medication that could be used instead?

If you decide to do it, watch the baby for signs of diarrhea or yeast.

The data is here:

That's fine, Diflucan is used in our NICU on preemies with fungal infections. But Flagyl is for bacterial infection, and depending on what the infection is, there may be an alternative antibiotic that would be safer for nursing. Like Cipro, if this is a gut infection, for example.

I won't take Flagyl again. I did take it and nurse for several months and felt confident in it's saftey for the nursing toddler. However, it really did a number on ME (i had a few of the rare side effects after I had been on it a while)...
If I had never been on it before, and it was only for a short course (less than 3 weeks) I would be comfortable taking it while nurseing.

Single dose or multiple doses over time? Have you been able to find out if they can prescribe something else?

Flagyl is generally considered pretty safe, it is an L2 in Dr. Hale's book:
