"Butt Sweater" question

Okay, I got some wool sweaters from Goodwill and fulled them to the thickness I want...

I am really hesitant to start cutting though. How do you know how big to cut the triangle? And do you sew the pieces together with a straight stitch or zig zag so it can stretch?

Please help! I need to get going on this!!!

i sew with a straight stitch since mine is felted till its really waterproof and almost no stretch to it. i know some use zig zag stitch. i have not use the triangle pattern, i use katrina's pattern which i think its the same with the wee weka training pants pattern.

I think you measure your lo's waist and that is the length of fabric that you cut on the bottom of the sweater. My dd measured 19" so I cut 20" to allow for seams and going over the massive night diaper.
