How many oz. did your baby lose?

We didn't have a scale so we didn't weigh Phin after he was born. The mw just came by today (he's 4 days old now) to do an exam and weigh him. He weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz! My biggest baby ever! And I was saying how tiny he was, lol.

I know everybody is going to be a little different with how many oz. their baby lost those first few days. DS 1 didn't lose ANY - he gained!. Anyway, we're guessing Phin was a 9+ lber. I don't know why but I find that very exciting:

Nora lost 1 oz. in the first 24 hours but was above her birth weight by 72 hours. She's a nursing machine.

I don't know, maybe an ounce. She weighed 7lb 15oz at birth and 2 days later weighed an even 8lbs. She is definitely not a slow grower like DS2.

4oz, she was 8oz over her birth weight by 1 week old.

LOL Elfinbaby! When I read your birth story and you said that Phin looked so tiny I was suprised to check out his pic and see how big he looked to me compared to Llewellyn. Now I know why! What a big boy! (Llewellyn was only 6#12 oz at birth and 21 inches long and was super skrawny looking). Congrats again on you new son:

L lost 2 oz the second day and then gained 8 oz by his one week check up.

I have no idea... I purposely avoided the 24 hour recheck appointment...

I see no point in it... I've had two already...I know the drill! :P

Cadence was 7#1.5oz at birth and 6#10oz when we were discharged 2 days later. So 7 ounces. We haven't had her weighed since, but I'm betting she's gained it back and then some.

I don't know b/c we were in the same situation as you - no scale at first - then we used a quite accurate scale of a friend the next day, late afternoon - and the MW came by when she was 4 days old and weighed her with HER scale and it said she'd lost 5oz, but none of my other kids lost... so I don't know. (Helpful huh? ).

Even if he wasn't 9lb, sounds like he was AWFUL close regardless...

Jade had pee'd several diapers and poo'd already when she was weighed so my guess is that she was 9lb 3oz like I had thought she would be (the scale read 9lb 1oz)... so we can be in the "slightly wondering" club. Lol!

Callie lost 5 ounces right after her first mec poop which took her down to 7lbs 12oz and gained it back in 2 or 3 days. She's 18 days old now and weighs about 9.3. So that's a total gain of 1 pound 6 oz.
She's my slowest gainer, but my biggest baby to start. Ds weighed 7lbs 4oz at birth and gained 4 pounds even the first 30 days, and dd1 weighed 6lbs 8oz at birth gained 3 lbs 4 ozs the first 30 days.
I love having a baby scale

It's a strictly curiosity thing. I'm going to assume he was around 9 lbs. Like I said, for some reason it gives me a giggle

Apparently everyone but me thought he looked so big - from the pictures I sent out but since I haven't seen a nb in so long, I thought he was tiny, lol.

Thanks for the replies.

Billie was 7 '12 at birth and was 7 '5 at 5 days old. At 12 days old he was 8 '1 and today 18 days old he was 8 ' 6..5

Claire was 8# 6.6 oz at birth and was 8# 1.6 at discharge, 36 hours later. We took her in for a weigh-in the following day and she was back up to 8#2, so a total loss of 5 oz. She's been working hard to keep up that double chin! I bet she'll be around 10 lbs at her 2-week.

I have no idea how much DS lost in the first few days...

But I just came back from hospital where they removed my stitches today and weighed myself (we don't have a scale at home, so I was really curious to find out how much weight I had lost pp) and dp steppd on the scale without and then with ds and apparently he is 600g heavier than when he was born and he is one week old today... that's 1 lb 5 ounces, if I'm not mistaken... breastmilk rocks!!!!

E was 7lbs 15oz at birth and 7lbs 11.5oz at discharge 36 hours after birth after 3 huge meconium poops.

At her 1 week check up she was up to 8lbs 5.5oz- so, 10oz gain in 5 days. I was happy with that.

Ansel was 7 lb 3 oz at birth. He had lost 2 oz when the ped weighed him at 3 days old. The next day he had already gained several oz (I can't recall exactly), and now at two weeks he is already 8 lbs 6 oz! I am amazed at his speedy weight gain. He feels so heavy to me!

Sebastian was 9 lbs 6 oz at birth and weighed 9 lbs even when he was weighed today. He was only an ounce more than Nora and over an inch longer, so he seems really tiny and thin to us, even though he's technically the biggest by every measurement (weight, length, head circ.)... so funny how your perceptions change, isn't it?

I know she lost some because she pooped 15 times the first day!! Meconium weighs a lot! She also didn't nurse for nearly 36 hours. But, she was up 2oz by 1 week. She's 3 weeks old now and is up nearly 2#, already 11lb 13oz. She's huge! As Franziska says, "breastmilk rocks"!

Mateo was 8 lbs 9 oz at birth (Thursday) by Saturday he was 7lbs 13 oz and yesterday (Tuesday) he was back up to 8lbs 5 oz. He should regain his birth weight and then some by the end of his first week. Breastmilk is AMAZING!
