Baby wipe solution?

Thread Starter
Does anyone have a recipe for baby wipe solution. I have almost run out of regular wipes and want to start using my cloth wipes but do not want to order something online. I'd rather just make it from stuff I have but am not sure what to use. Anyone have any suggestions or just want to share what they use as their wipe solution?

I just mix a small squirt of California Baby body wash with water in a small spray bottle kept at the changing table. It has worked really well for DS, and I kick myself for not using my cloth wipes with my cloth diapers from the very beginning.

Me, too!!

I washed my peri bottle they gave me at the hospital and filled it with water and a squirt of Dr Bronners. I also tried a recipe before, w/ water, Dr B's, apricot baby oil, and tea tree oil and it smelled musty almost right away. Yuck! So I just pared it down to the Dr B's water and I squirt it on them and wipe w/ the cloth wipes. I know some people repurpose their plastic disposable wipes tubs and fill them w/ wipes and solution, but a friend of mine had hers be musty or mildewy and that's what made me just start off w/ separate liquid and wipes.

I will confess to using some chlorine free disposable wipes occasionally as DH & I have 2 in diapers and certain situations call for this, in our newbie to CD/cloth wipes position. I imagine if/when I have a newborn again I'll start at the beginning and this may never be necessary.

Thanks for the advice. I've been debating this for a while so I have figured out that I'll keep the solution separate and just squirt as needed . I remember reading elsewhere about using water with a little bit of soap (baby shampoo or castile or whatever). I've also heard of using a bit of oil like Olive Oil or drops of Tea Tree Oil, but I'm not sure if I'll do this or not. Thanks again!

I haven't used this recipe yet, but I got it from the moderator of a cloth diapering workshop.

2 cups filtered water
2 Tbsp liquid baby soap
1 Tbsp baby oil or Calendula oil
1 drop Tea Tree oil

She said to stack wipes in a tupperware and pour solution over wipes, making sure they all get soaked through.

I use 2 cups of water, drop of tea tree oil, drop of lavender oil and pour over a box of cloth wipes. I fold my 8x8 wipes in half and put them in a plastic container from disposable wipes. I go through my wipes in 2 days and have not had a problem.

I used wash clothes - the cheap buy a dozen for $2 or something and had a bowl that I put warm water in and a touch of Dr. Bronners threw the wash cloth in and called it good. If it was a BM then I put the cloth in the diaper pail and if not I would use it again (rinsed out of course!).

I tried a couple different recipes for baby wipe solution but ended up just using water. Even cut everything seem so soapy or oily and didn't help that much with clean up. I just quirt some water onto the wipe. For the occasional really sticky poo I squirt direct onto DD's bum and it floats the gunk away (and makes DD giggle.)

Wash clothes wet with warm water. Anything else always seemed to cause diaper rash. I kept the baby changing area near the bathrooom sink and got it right from the tap. Wash clothes went right into the laundry.

Big washcloths or baby ones? I've completely gone back to store bought wipes (and diapers for that matter while we battle stink) and really want to get back to cloth. DS#2's bum is so rashy all the time...

The one's I used were a regular bath size washcloth. You could use baby ones though. Now that we're done with diapers I have a great stock of raggy washcloths for all my cleaning!

We just use plain water. We keep it in a thermos and wet the clothes as needed. We change the water daily to avoid funk.

Same here and I keep a small spray bottle of water with a drop of castille soap to use after particularly sticky poos.

I use chamomile tea and aloe mixed together since my little guy has sensitive skin.

I use plain water with a couple drops of Burt's Bees apricot baby oil.

ds is older now so sometimes i just change him in the tub and rinse his butt right off. Or if he doesn't want to get in the tub i just wet a wash cloth in the sink and wipe his toosh! We haven't had any problems. I never even thought about a solution. not sure why, but this works for us. ds has super sensitive skin too, and i wish i would have started with cloth wipes in the begginning. if you're washing dipaers, why not wash wipes. if we are going out i just get the wash cloths wet and then put them in a plastic baggy.

I am cheap and lazy. I cut up some soft flannel with pinking shears and when it is time to wipe I run them under warm tap. That's it.

I made my own cloth wipes...flannel in 8 x 8 inch squares and just overlock stitched them. They work great! I fold them in half and put them in a plastic box from disposable wipes, and pour the solution over them. I use mine in about 4 days and have no problems with stink or mildew or anything. For my solution, I use:

3 cups water
1 cup organic aloe vera
a drop or two of TTO
a drop or two of lavender EO

Shake it all up vigorously in a bottle them pour it over the top of the wipes till they're wet. Put whatever is left in the fridge for next time.

I fill an eight ounce amber bottle nearly full with extra virgin olive oil or jojoba. Then add a few drops each of lavender and tto. I use this as my concentrate solution.

I started out shaking a capful of the oil mixture with a cup of hot water and soaking a wipes box full of folded cloth wipes. It lasted two days and never had any trouble.

But I got tired of refilling the box. So now I have an 8oz aluminum spray bottle & I put in one capful of oil, then fill the rest of the way with water. I add a little more oil if needed, just enough to make wiping a little more smooth so the cloth doesn't drag and so it cleans up sticky poo easier. I like the spray bottle method cuz it's portable and can go into the diaper bag if needed.

We use:
8 oz water
couple of drops of TTO
1 tbs aloe vera gel
1 tbs coconut oil

Occasionally, I just use water, but like the extra touch of making a solution.
