"natural" makeup - what's out there

I'd like to buy some new "natural makeup. Can anyone tell me a little bit of what to look for? I am interested in mascara, eyeliner, lipstick.

well, I'm not really sure about all of the options, but I use mineral make-up from Everyday Minerals. They are all natural (no fillers, chemicals, parabens, etc.) and I love it! They don't specifically sell eyeliner, you buy the eye color you want and apply with a thin brush like eyeliner. It works wonderfully for me and it's very light. Their lip colors are wonderful and come in the form of sticks or as glosses in little pots. You can also use any of their cheek colors as lip color, just apply clear gloss then the color with your finger. I spent about $125 last year and still have tons left. I go through a thing of foundation/powder every 2 - 3 months, but the cheek and eye colors will last you around 9 months - a year, maybe even more if you don't wear make-up a lot (I have to re-apply about once a day b/c of my job). I've tried a few other mineral make-ups, and this is by far the best in my opinion!

For eyeliner I can suggest loreal eyeliner is best Iam using it these days it is very nice and for mascara mayebelline. Lipsticksyo can go for revolon or loreal. Both have nice shades avialable.

But I was wondering does mineral make-up work for all skin types? Is it easy to apply?

I also use mineral makeup! I have some Bare Escentuals, and some Everyday Minerals. There is a learning curve, but I believe on the www.everydayminerals.com website there is a link to a video showing you how to apply it. Basically you tap some out in the lid, swirl your brush in there (there are certain brushes you should use-I get bare escentuals brushes off of ebay) tap off the excess, then swirl it onto your face. I divide my face into sections. I do my cheek & chin, then my cheek & nose, then my forehead. There is a different look to mineral makeup, but EM offers different finishes-original glo, matte, semi-matte, or intensive-so everyone can use it. I broke out with BE, but not with EM. So I kind of switch back & forth between the two. I love BE eyeshadows much more than EM, though. And you can use them as eyeliner. Also a lipstick! I dip a plain lip balm into my cheek color & wear it as lipstick.

For mascara I recently discovered Neutrogena Healthy volume. May not be natural, but for what I've spent on mascaras in the last year, it works the best!! I really like it.

the OP was asking for natural make-up options, so while these may work well, they are not natural by any means.

As for mascara, I still havent' found one that works well that is natural or organic. Luckily for me my eyelashes are naturally dark, but I know that's not the case for most women. I've been looking around, so if I find something I'll let you know.

I like the mascara from Honeybee Gardens. I buy it through Frontier co-ops for just under $6 a tube if I my memory serves me correctly. I think it works better than my mainstream mascara did. I also have their lipstick. It's nice, but not quite as good as my toxic Loreal.

Here's the list of ingredients for the mascara as listed on their website:

Bare Minerals recently took the parabens out of their mascara -- and I LOVE IT!!! I have hated EVERY watery non-paraben mascara I've tried. Bare Minerals has bulk -- and the ingredients look good!

Bare Mineral lipsticks are all-natural, and I really like those. My skin loves their foundation, so that is what I stick with. Just remember to moisurize RIGHT BEFORE applying. So the make up will kind of stick to that layer. Otherwise, it feels cakey and dry.

I just got the free sample kit of EDM and I already love it. I used to have jane iredale but I find it hard to apply and look both natural and give me the coverage i want..

BTW, forgot to mention, I also REALLY like the natural Gabrielle brand of lipsticks, eyeline, and lipliners (not so much their other stuff).

I use to work for Origins and they have some great makeup. Everything that has come out since 08/05 is paraben free - and when I left in April they were working to reformulate all of their older products. I know that we did have some mascara that was paraben-free - and the products that are have a disclaimer on the box that says it's been formulated without parabens, propylene glycol, etc. They also have a certified organic (food-grade) skin care line. Great products.

You can check them out online at origins.com. There's a store locator on the site - and I encouage you to make an appt. locally for some pampering and/or makeover - or just go in. Keep in mind that the dep. stores will have fewer products than the retail stores. For example, the retail stores and online have a 95% organic liptint line that the dept. stores don't carry.
