Hello and Help!

So...here's the situation. My beautiful baby is almost 2 months old now. [my how time flies...] and because of a *due date* mishap at the stupid ob's she was born, supposedly at 33 weeks - even though she was really 37 - and was considered premature and whisked away to the nicu where they continually gave her pacifiers, bottles of formula and glucose water even though i had a sign on her crib and told them not to give her anything.

i tried and tried to get breastfeeding going with her. she's still a champ at latching on, but our problem is that she gets really frustrated that she has to work for it, instead of getting *fast food* from the bottle. She'd scream and scream until she was bright red and hiccupping and hacking, and i'd give in and give her a bottle to get her to calm down as there was no nursing then.

Since i stopped the nursing i was doing, i've noticed she's had some breathing issues - my ped said were seasonal allergies, plus she's having lots more gas and spitting up and she's eating so much. i'm so mad at myself for giving in to formula.

anyway, we're starting over. i finally have the money to buy my own electric pump and i still have milk, just an extremely minimal amount. What do i do besides pump to start this over? anyone have any advice?

i really want to do this for my baby. even if i just end up exclusively pumping. any words of wisdom are appreciated!

stick with this forum!!

it's an amazing source of support!

My two bits: I have real LS and am still plugging away, I have revised my goals to just maintaining staus quo.

First - don't give up - do your best - we are all with you!

Obviously, take fenugreek, drink water, take the other herbals and get enough rest. This might also be a good time to start Domperidone

and pump! if you can top off each feeding with 15 min of pumping, that's great. It's harder than it sounds and I have huge respect for the mamas here who did/ are doing it.

and nurse - all the time!

and chuck out the bottle and supplement only with an SNS at the breast

if you still have milk ther's a good chance you can reverse this situation... so good luck!

Can you get a referral to a lactation consultant? Or maybe a LLL leader can help? Please check out the "low milk supply" stickie at the top of this forum for ideas to help increase your supply, pumped or direct.

that sounds like an awfully frustrating situation!
