For some reason, the search function isn't working. Anyway, we are on vacation and there are a ton of evil flies/mosquitoes. What natural oil or remedy can I try and lather onto DS's skin?

I just ordered this today to try:

Third one down...

I've not tried it before.

I use citronella essential oil from our HFS. It works great.

I use this:
www.natrapel.com
I got the natralpel plus in walmart & it works great!
We tried it out sitting on a blanket on the lawn by our Koi ponds (where skeeters will attack in seconds) We sprayed the blanket all around & sat there from 4pm until dark & never got 1 skeeter on us!

I really like Bite Blocker. It's worked great on camping trips, staying out late at night around a fire in the woods, and here in Japan where the mosquitoes are absolutely crazy!! It's the only one that's close to natural that's worked for us in all these places!

I have some Bug Balm from http://www.brunswickbeeworks.com , but I just noticed they stopped carrying it . I love the stuff...looks like I'll be shopping for a new insect repellent.

I really like Cactus Juice.

http://www.cactusjuicetm.com/

It smells nice too (like orange sherbet) My dds have had skin reactions to a lot of bug products but this one works nicely.

I checked out the site, but couldn't find an ingredient list. Do you know where I can find out what's in it or could you post the ingredients?

I like Lewey's Eco-Blends Natural Insect Repellent.

I like California Baby.

We have used the California Baby sunscreen/bug repellent here in town and had no issues (maybe 1-2 bug bites all last summer). This summer the girls have had more bites (I think, more mosquitos this year, it's been wetter).

We went up on the mountains yesterday and the girls wore California Baby sunscreen/bug repellent and also I applied Badger's Anti-Bug Balm under their arm pits and clothes - SJ has maybe five bites, Ina has (count 'em!) 22. :

So, I'm looking for something new to add to my California Baby (or perhaps, supercede it?). Am wondering whether anyone has had much luck with their plain old spray bugspray (California Baby). SJ has a dairy allergy and we avoid soy products (haven't ever tried them because those allergies can be so intertwined)....

Otherwise, the Bite Blocker looks really good and interesting! If it weren't soy-based.

Burts bee's has one with the major ingrediant being citronella.

Cedar oil works well also (part of an EO blend we use)

I used to use CJ but found out it has parabens and was advised against it by another mdc mama. I found a list of what's in it here.

I didn't use anything for years since we were bug free in the wonderful NW..but now we're back in New England w/ the bugs and use Kiss My Face Worked good but applied often. I will do that if it is healthier for my babes (and felt it worked much better than Cactus Juice, imo)

We use their sunscreen too. hth!
