So here's my race report. Get to the race around 7:20 and register...got the last shirt! Woo Hoo! So I wander around, do some light stretching, as the race nears I go out for a shortish (1/2 m) warmup and decide to lose the shirt. It's really humid! So I throw it over a tree branch and line up. I'm feeling really intimidated there are a lot of very young, very fit looking women! And then we're off and I click the garmin.
I brought the garmin to try and help me pace myself the first mile. I went out too fast at the last 5k I did and it nigh killed me! But also since something is still up with my speed (just nowhere near as fast as I was) I have set a new goal. I want to try and keep my pace at or below 8:30 min miles.
Mile one: 8:10. It felt good, not too fast or hard, nice and easy, but didn't have that pace feeling yet.
Mile two: 8:18 this was the mile of slappy. There was this woman that we played tag for a bit, slap...scuff, slap....scuff. She would slap one foot down and almost drag the other. I know it's really uncharitable, but it was driving me bonkers! I sped up just so I could get away from her (I later saw her finish about 3 minutes after me).
Mile 3: 8:38 I'm definitely slowing down, but just not feeling like killing myself...ya know. There's not a lot of people to run with, either too slow or too fast so I was just kinda on my own. But now I'm watching chickie that passed me super fast on the first mile and eyeballin' how far away she is and do I think I can take her.
Mile 4: 8:40 just watching the chickie girl and realizing I'm gonna have to pick up the pace I'm not following my plan. Gah. But I pass chickie getting close to mile 5.
Mile 5: 8:35 Really brought it home the last tenth to make my goal of beating 42:30 (8:30 mm) and just did at 42:20.
So on the one hand I made my goal, but on the other I didn't. I really wanted to keep the miles under 8:30.
CathToria - I'm really not sure, maybe give it a day or two and see if it starts improving. Are you a masochist who doesn't go to the doctor when they should? If so, review your decisions...if not, trust your gut.
mamabeth what about sitting in steam and trying to loosen things up. Could it just be drainage at night, is it better as the day goes by? This will pass
kerc - dd picked Samantha Parkington. I looked on ebay and frankly they were going for almost as much as new! It seemed pointless. But I'll keep checking. She really wants to get another one so they can play together and I've thought about doing that for her for Christmas. Then the money she's saving can just go for clothes. I'm working on a dress for her doll...we'll see how it comes out. It's a free pattern off the internet that's a pia to follow, the directions are horrendous.
SugarandSun - rr?
towsonmama - did you do a half??? rr?
