I've had mastitis twice. I took ridiculously high amounts of vitamin C, about every 20 minutes, until I got diarrhea (which unfortunately lasted the rest of the day). BUT, it worked. The soreness, though, lasted 4 or 5 more days--it's a bruised feeling, right? Mine felt like I was bruised from the inside (from the swelling) and that took time to get better. But the fever/chills/bodyache stuff went away just a bit before the diarrhea struck.

I've had mastitis 2 or 3 times, and been on Dicloxacillin for it. My son has never gotten thrush. It you're worried, you could also take some probiotics from a vitamin store.
I did a lot of massage and a lot of pumping to try to move things along as quickly as possible. It still took days for the pain to resolve, and weeks for the milk supply to return to normal. Good luck!

Has anyone tried the booby tubes (Earth Mama product). I'm thinking of getting them for my sister. She is having mastitis right now.
Thanks!

You have to get that bad milk out and flowing, that's the big thing or it can abcess. It hit me like a train about a month ago. I *had* to start on antibiotics immediately and spent literally hours applying hot compresses and working the milk through the blocked ducts. When one would finally open it felt a bit like a pop as the thickened milk cleared. I had a lump the size of a tennis ball by my nipple and several small ones scattered through the breast and under my arm.

I've been battling thrush, too. It's no fun. I've also noticed that I have to be really careful about keeping that breast empty, particularly when I get run down, as it wants to threaten to get infected again.

Hope you feel better soon!
