icky gasket on FL washer

My gasket on my FL washer is all mildewy and moldy Whirlpool says to use some diluted bleach. I would rather not use the bleach. What else could I use to get rid of this ick?!? Thanks!!

Ours is disgusting too. I've even used bleach and it didn't help. DH checked into just replacing the entire thing and it was only about $60. When we've got the money, that's our plan. My parents bought the same washer and I warned them about our problem. They just leave the washer open to completely dry out after doing the laundry and they were able to avoid the problem.

Leaving it open to air after every load really is the best plan to help prevent it happening.

Have you tried vinegar or tea tree oil?

toothpaste, not the gel kind, regular white paste and an old toothbrush. just like brushing your teeth, then wipe off. and the icky stuff should be gone.

We have the same nasty crap! I leave the washer door open ALL the time and wipe down the gasket and it still stinks and still gets funky. I'm thinking of ordering a new gasket, but I'm not sure.

I also just read about a special cleaner: www.smellywasher.com
I don't know anything about the cleaner, though.
