what do you buy organic? - Page 2

Only Eggs and beef soup bones because for some reason I can't stomach the grocery store ones.
Organic is WAY too expensive and for the 2 years we were eating 90+% organic, I didn't notice a difference in my families health at all.

right now . . . nothing . . . .right when grocery prices are soaring our income has tanked (down to 1/4th what it was)

but a couple weeks ago I made sure at least my chicken and milk and eggs were organic. I still buy milk from a local farm ($5 a gallon) that is produced witout hormones, and eggs from a local farm when possible (they have alimited amount of chickens). produce and canned goods when it is a good deal (it is often the same price as regular or less). other wise just getting food on the table is tricky right now. Organic will have to be saved for what comes from my garden.

I buy local as opposed to organic.

Locally, I buy:

1/2 cow each year
11 gallons of raw milk per week
eggs
1/2 bushel from CSA
bacon, but I will be joining that CSA when there is an opening

I order from a co-op, so on the organic side, I buy:

some cheeses (so expensive)
white flour with wheat germ added back in
sugar
yogurt for starter
dirty dozen list
mayonnaise
shortening
oil
honey

And I will buy organics at the grocery store if the regular item has HFCS in it. And unfortunately, that has become the biggest battle to keep that out of my house.

I read one label and HFCS was in the children's pain reliever. So, I need to look at medicine labels, too.

This stuff is everywhere. It is in Nutri-grain bars, Ritz crackers, Wheat Thins. C'mon. Really?

We are going local rather than organic. We bought a quarter of a cow, DH got a deer, we buy eggs from a local (non-certified) farmer, we are partcipating in a CSA (although that has been asparagus, strawberries, lettuce and radishes so far), and we buy what we can from the farmers market. We buy organic or non-BGH treated milk. Produce we can't get local we buy organic if it's comparable in cost to the regular. We buy alot of the Meijer Organics stuff (canned and dry goods) that are often not much more than the name brand comparison.
