Good Source of Galactogogues

So, this whole low supply thing is really financially draining. We're practically broke as it is, and now I'm trying to figure out how I can swing $50 a month for domperidone..

Does anyone have any good (read: cheap) places to get things like fenugreek and all the other recommended herbs?

I saw fenugreek on www.swansonvitamins.com where I buy shatavari and it seems pretty cheap. But there's fenugreek seed and fenugreek extract, and I'm not sure what the difference is. The fenugreek seed is only $1.99 for 100 caps.

That's for damn sure. I stopped my Dom due to finances and that's one of the reasons I still am searching for BM donors, we can't afford the formula either:!! Due to a generous MDC mom I now have some goat's rue and shatavari, her leftover stash. I just googled shatavari and found a site that sells it really cheap: http://www.fubaohealthstore.com/Ayur...60VegCaps.html , I just hope it works as well as the Dom did.

I tried to argue with my insurance co that either milk from a bank or formula should be covered since I didn't produce enough milk myself. The lady said, "but it isn't medically necessary", WTF, if my baby didn't get it he would die, hummm, seems medically necessary to me!

Hummm...don't know the difference between the extract and seed, sorry.

Trying to find the balance of supplementing vs doping ourselves up really can take alot mentally, physically, financially...out of us LSers.

That's a darn good point. We should all take it up with our insurance companies.

The problem is with finding cheaper galactagogues is just because it's goat's rue, (for example) doesn't mean it works as well as all other goat's rues. Not that that necessarily means that the expensive ones work better than the cheap ones. It could be the opposite. You just don't know until you try. It really sucks, doesn't it.

Anyway, some cheaper galactagogues are alfalfa and some other herbs you can make in teas, like red clover, nettle, etc. You can also make your own tinctures. I know some people by goat's rue in the loose herb format and make their own.

When I realized that the expensive pills I'd been buying at the healthfood store were just fenugreek seed ground up and shoved in a capsule, I started buying my fenugreek from the Indian grocery down the road. Look for bags of yellow seeds labeled "Methi." I pay about $3.50/lb. You put a teaspoon of seed in a cup of boiling water, drink the resulting tea, and then chuggalug the seeds. It's not only cheaper than the stuff in the capsules, but it's also lots fresher!

This may not be feasible time wise, but I buy fenugreek, blessed thistle, marshmallow root, and goats rue in powder formand make my own capsules. It's much more cost efficient than buying premade!
