Combining herbals for LS

I've been taking fenugreek and drinking Mother's Milk Tea, and also recently purchased Lactation Blend as this had been recommended. I stopped the fenugreek when I started taking the Lactation Blend...do you think it's okay to take them together? I was also looking at trying More Milk Plus... could I take that with these others, or should I put it in place of something else? (I'm also drinking gallons upon gallons of water and eating like a horse.) Anything else I should consider trying? TIA!

You can take all those together. The only things you're not supposed to take together are Domperidone and Shatavari. But either one can be taken with any of the things you mentioned.

More Milk Special Blend has Goat's Rue in it, too, which can help build breast tissue. Or you could take Goat's Rue separately. There's also either Shatavari or Domperidone, either of which could help.

Just wanted to let you know, too, that drinking too much water can also negatively affect supply. It's a tricky thing. The general rule is to drink to thirst.

Acupuncture can help, too.

Alfalfa is good, red clover, oat straw, nettle, dandelion...

Also, I belong to this other group, mobi (mothers overcoming breastfeeding issues--you might want to consider joining for support and ideas: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/mobi/) and one woman there discovered that metamucil increased her supply. Other women have tried it as well, and it really works for some.

They say not to take them both together because they are supposed to have the same effect. In other words, shatavari is the herbal equivalent of domperidone. I also believe the other reason they say that is because there have been no studies of people taking them together.

That being said, I know that when women wean off of domperidone, they often substitute what they weaned off with the equivalent of shatavari.

And just as everything else, shatavari works for some people while domperidone doesn't, and vice versa. So, it's all guesswork anywho.

And to be honest, I take both I'm just repeating what I've been told.

Too much water can NEGATIVELY affect supply??? Crap! How do I know? And I don't understand why that would be??

Do I need a prescription for domperidone? Would shatavari be just as good to start with?

And - do you take goat's rue? Some of what I read about it made me question if I wanted to take it, i.e. not sure if it was safe for babies, etc.

I know. It's confounding. They say to drink to thirst.

No, you don't need a prescription if you order it offshore. Most people (including me) get it from http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/digestive/motilium.html

I think you could start with either. Like I said, you don't know if it's gonna work till you try it. It takes a couple of weeks to get the dom from offshore, so you could try shatavari in the meantime.

yes, I do. Loads of women take it for supply. You should only try what you're comfortable with though.
