No-poo plus Henna or Natural Hair Coloring -- ALWAYS a no-go???

LOVING no-poo. My scalp is in its best shape ever (after decades of irritation, flakes, and itching -- which I now attribute to build up and irritation from fragrance and chemicals in traditional shampoos). ANYHOW-- I am also going a bit grey, and would LOVE to cover it with something natural. Will no-pooing with BS and ACV strip all attempts to henna or do a natural color rinse of some sort???

Are there any other methods of no-pooing that are more compatible witht henna or hair coloring (or highlighting) -- such as Dr. Bronners, soap bars, honey, etc?

Thanks!!!!

I was a henna head for a while and I used shampoo bars. I'm pretty sure the ACV won't affect the henna at all, however I have no idea on the bs. But if anyone would know, these folks would. HTH

I love no-poo, but I also love to henna. I've tried no-pooing with henna and find that it strips the "highlights" from my hair very quickly (like in two times no-pooing). From what I've heard here on mdc, many people have had this same problem. I just ordered some henna today and was actually coming online to search for a good shampoo to use instead of the no-poo since I would like my henna to last for a while.

Dr Bronner's works fine with henna, but it makes my hair too dull and lifeless. I also get a buildup very quickly from Dr Bronners. I've used Aubrey Organics Chamomile and again it makes my hair so dull, but it doesn't strip the henna. Avalon Organics (Although I'm not sure it's very "organic" at all) works great, but I worry about the ingredients and I just really love how no-poo is so awesome on my hair. It's so tough deciding what's best!!

I just switched back to shampoo after 2 years of no pooing because I couldn't get the bicarb to work with henna. My hair was just getting lifeless and dry and flat and stringy, whereas before henna it was working out just fine (ini fact better than when I was using shampoo). Now with shampoo it looks nice again. I have no idea why the combination of henna and no poo didn't work. Seperately they are fine, together they are a hair disaster on me. I didn't find it stripped the colour though.

a few thoughts:
1) Bronner's now makes a conditioning rinse which is supposed to keep it from building up and keep it from the dry stringy effect some people experience. i just bought some but haven't tried it yet.

2) maybe somethng like the head-to-toe honey wash from Oyin would work: http://oyinhandmade.com/oyin/index.p...products_id=20 they also make a nice shampoo bar.

i switched from no poo with BS and ACV to Bronner's and Oyin products because my hair got really dry and brittle when i was pregnant - even with frequent heavy oiling with coconut oil. it's doing great now
