Have you had a version? How was it?

So I just went in for my 36 week appt and baby is still breech. I can have a version in a couple of days if I want, which seems preferable to at least try before risking a c-section (they won't do breech births around here).

Can you tell me what a version is like and if it helped you at all? Or if it was harmful in any way? Also, how much did it hurt? And, they will use terbutaline to relax my uterus...is that safe?

Obviously, I'd prefer to have her turn on her own, but she's been butt down the whole time and I don't know if it will happen.

Yes, it hurt a lot. Probably more than labor itself.

I'd recommend getting chiropractic treatments, accupuncture, moxabustion, and using homeopathics first.

Then if you still choose to have a c-section don't schedule it. Wait until you are in labor before doing it as some babies don't turn until labor begins.

Just another thought... Do you think maybe baby is in that position for a reason? Some mamas believe that there is a reason baby chooses their positions. Just an idea.

But maybe try the other natural things Megan listed above if you really want to try to turn her.

I had a version with baby number 5. It was unsuccessful. He did end up turning on his own before birth. His cord was around his neck. I believe they are sometimes in that position for a reason. The version was very, very painful. I was bruised and sore for weeks. I had it done around 38 wks and was induced soon after. Baby six and seven were also breech but then flipped on their own after chiropractic care and other natural remedies. This baby has also been breech but seems to be head down right now. I declined a version unless it was a choice (immediate choice) between that and a csection.

: Ditto what Megan said. DD1 was posterior but she turned after I'd been getting chiro care. Check out http://icpa4kids.org/ to find a chiro in your area who's trained in Webster technique, it deals with aligning mama's pelvis for optimal fetal position. Also, check out spinningbabies.org if you haven't already.

Also, but have you tried talking to the baby? I did one night and she totally flopped over from being butt on the right to butt on the left. And she's stayed that way since. Just relax and talk to your baby, and ask if they can go where they need to be to facilitate birth. You can kind of gently do long strokes along your belly in the direction that you'd like babe to move. It worked for me!!!

I had a version with my son, mine wasn't painful but it also didn't work. I had moxabustion afterwards. The acupuncturist did a half an hour of turning needles in my little toes and then a half an hour of waving burning mugwort near my little toes. That hurt, but it worked and I had my homebirth.

also the frozen veggie trick

Have you heard the trick about putting a bag of frozen veggies up by where the head is and slowly moving it along so the baby gets uncomfy and turns.

My second BIG baby turned breech very late, and turned back (and did have a nuchal cord at birth, but it was fine). I spent a lot of time "upside down" in a slant board position to get him to turn back.

This baby was transverse for a long time (until the morning of my 36 week home visit), and the same tricks eventually worked. So you might give it another week or so to turn on its own. But I would definitely try a version the. As long as the are using ultrasound to monitor baby as it's being done, and monitor you for a few hours afterwards to make sure baby wasn't harmed, then I think it's worth a try.
Are you absolutely sure there are no midwives in the area that will attend a breech birth?
