I actually nursed in a nursing room today!

And it was downright pleasant!

I've never used one before, and I guess I thought I was being unreasonably picky about accomodations. But when I sat down and thought about it, while nursing Ford, I realized it had everything I needed.

A comfy chair
Quiet
Clean
Cool
Smelled nice
Door that closes

Although you reached it by going through the family restroom, it didn't smell like the bathroom, and the chaging facilities were seperate, so no trash can full of stinky diapers and a constant flow of traffic.

My standards really aren't that high, but they are met so rarely that I'm delighted when they are.

Kudos to Grapevine Mills for having an altogether decent nursing room with exceptionally comfy chairs!

I'm so used to "nursing rooms" being the last washroom stall or a storage closet with a broken stack chair, I was assuming your post would be something negative. Glad to hear there are a few of them around.

Mamabadger, you should check out the nursing rooms in Sears. They are lovely - decorated like a baby nursery, with a big rocking chair, a diaper table & diaper disposal, usually wipes, magazines, nice lamp...and toys!

I happened to pass by the nursing room in our airport the other day. It looked nice. Big comfy couch, a few rocking chairs, decorated like a baby's nursery through and through. Complete with a changing table (a real one, not one of those attached to the wall things), nice lamps (no harsh overhead lights) and some toys to keep younger kids entertained.

Nordstom's. Wow. It's not specifically a nursing area, more a ladies lounge, but I like nursing there better than in my own home. It's super nice.

Oh lord the "lounge" at Nordstrom's is like nursing heaven, I'd move in there if I could.

Heck, I liked bottle feeding DD in Nordstrom's lounge! (a couple other stores have nice lounges too). So quiet and comfortable; she never got distracted. And my butt never got sore.

We have a high end mall here in Toronto (Yorkdale) and it has a beautiful nursing room. It is nicely painted with wonderful large leather chairs and side tables, has a small table and chairs for toddlers to sit at and colour or play, nursing pillows to use, a beautiful floor to ceiling curved glass block window at one end beside the door, a sink counter and microwave in the main room and two bathrooms that are separate rooms with doors big enough to bring a stroller into with a mama sized toilet and a toddler sized toilet, a changing table, diaper disposal, sink and stuff. It is very nice. I nurse wherever DS gets the need but I look forward to nursing in that room

I know it seems like a good idea to have changing facilities in the nursing room, but the smells never seem to go away, even if the trash is taken out regularly. That's a bathroom activity to me, and it should be separated from an eating activity, IMO.

Wow that sounds great - I've never been in it. Toddler sized toilet! Wowee!

See, I think of it completely differently. It seems like these places are going the extra mile to make nursing rooms that feel like home (or, in some cases, even better than home!) and therefore make it sort of a nursery room. They are supposed to make us feel like we're at home- and I don't know about you but at home I change my DD in the same room that I nurse her in. I love this whole idea because instead of making it some seperate "nursing room" (which makes me feel like I've been hidden in some back room) they make it into a baby/toddler room. And I have no problems breastfeeding in a comfy chair while another mom changes her kids diaper...and maybe I can even strike up a conversation about bfing!
Oh, and I guess for me- if the facility is has that stinky diaper smell, that is usually not the only reason I wouldn't want to nurse there...they tend to be gross in general. I'm so glad places are having better rooms for us!
