Sonlight or similar?

Hello fellow homeschooling parents! I am in the process of choosing a curriculum for my son who is starting kindergarten. I have been looking over Sonlight's website, and I feel like it is very appropriate to his learning style. Is there a curriculum that you would recommend that is similar to Sonlight (I like that it is multi-cultural and literature-based) but without the religious aspect? Or does anyone use Sonlight w/out the Bible study? I appreciate your help!

Lots of people (including me) use sonlight secularly. There is a yahoo group called Sonlight Secular that might be of some help to you.

Yes, you can skip the Bible parts of Sonlight. I'm quite sure you can order the core and the Bible part isn't included, it's a separate add-on. Or, you can order everything you want separately.

We love Sonlight. My ds just finished core K and I just ordered level 1 for him.

We are secular Sonlight users. It is fairly easy to leave out the religious content.

Yes, we use Sonlight without the Bible parts. (We're Catholic, so we're coming from a different theological perspective.)

In later grades, you may have to skip or substitute a few read-alouds, and there is an "interesting" book in Science 2, but all in all, you can edit out the religious stuff.

We also use Sonlight as secular users.

The one thing I would like to point out is that if your child is familiar with bible stories it allows them to understand a lot of America's cultrual literacy and expounds some of the references in other books that they might read in the future.

Good Luck!

I'd like to discuss this so I'm going to start a new thread.

I posted on your other loop too...

I just want to say that I don't think children need to know about bible stories, but that familiarity just helps expound other literary references they may come across...

Thanks for letting me clarify my original statement.

jadedone80- I'm sorry if you felt misrepresented. You are not the only person from whom I've heard that it is a good idea for children to have a familiarity with bible stories even if you are secular homeschoolers. The statement I wrote was similar to what you stated but not exactly the same because it was not meant to be a quote. It was meant to be an idea to discuss. I think it is an interesting topic for secular homeschoolers to discuss.
