I've imagined myself in your shoes a hundred million times in the past 25 months. I would NOT have kept my cool as well as you did. 
You did super, mama! It's awesome that you knew your rights. I hope your brother was able to relax after awhile, I can only imagine that his discomfort added to yours and vice versa.
