knit strawberries- need yarn reccomendation

hi all

I have an urge as of this am to knit a huge basket of strawberries

I want the yarn to be smooth/silky but not pill a lot. To stay clean looking. I want the colors to be a berry red/ but variegate ever so slightly like a real strawberry would. Wool is okay(if not a real pilling kind) but a blend could work- or bamboo, soft cotton, etc etc etc.

I guess kettle dyed may be appropriate
Anyone know of something that my work? I've got green for the tops already.
thanks!

sure.It's on flickr

And, I did a quick search through an abandoned yarn basket and found some kool-aid dyed variegated yarn So I have already knit 2

I plan to knit another in a darker berry red, and a few in a lighter pink/red yarn.

A friend linked me to this thread, this is my pattern - I used mystery thrift shop wool I hand dyed. I have knit them in all kinds of worsted weight yarn, and they always look great.
