need help with my "new" curly hair

Since I had my dd (2 yrs ago) my hair has been getting curlier and curlier. At first it was just wavy so I would blow dry it straight and then it got to curly for that and I got a flat iron. Well I finally accepted and now really like my curly hair : It isn't super curly I would describe it as very wavy/ soft curls. I have long hair, halfway down my back. So I wear it curly now but I have never used hair products and never really liked them when I tried but I would like my curls to look more defined. They look good when my hair is still damp but once completely dried they look, well...dry. I dont think I have dry hair, I use conditioner everytime I wash it (usually every other day) and if I skip more than one day between washing it is an oily mess. So is there a natural product or something I could even make myself that I could put on my curls to make them look good but that wont leave my hair feeling greasy or hard and crunchy?

"Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey is a book that changed my life. There is a tribe for women with curly hair that you might find useful.

I'm a big fan of Aveda's "Be Curly" styling product. It's a little pricey (around $20) but lasts for a long time - probably 6 or 9 months for me? I have shoulder length wavy hair and use it every day (about a dime size amount).

Try skipping the shampoo and just wash your hair with conditioner. White Rain conditioner is especially good for this: it gets your hair clean without drying it out.

It's a little different from using shampoo. You have to use loads of it, and get your hair really slippery. You have to leave it in for at least five minutes, and when you rinse it out, you have to rinse it about three times as much as you think you have to.

But the result (after an adjustment period that varies from person to person) is sleek, shiny hair, with the curls bouncing freely. Give it a try!

Thanks mamas! My library is getting the Curly Girl book for me. I started a no-poo routine today, we'll see how it goes.
