spinning wheel- what age?

We decided to do a charter school for homeschool for the first few years. Praying it works out....

ANYWAY-

One of the approved vendors for the $ that each semester we get, is http://www.achildsdream.com/.:

They have spinning wheels I am excited! But what age can I really pass it off as a "mother-daughter learning" type thing? dd will be 6 in nov, and is great with her motor skills.

You could probably do it now, and certainly in a year's time: somewhere I've seen a spinning blog by a 7yo boy.

I love their idea of using batts as a base for a nature table. I am definitely trying that this year...

I am just now learning how to use a drop spindle. It seems like that might be something a child can do around 5 years maybe? My 3 yo is definitely too young, though very interested.

My 3y/o uses a dropspindle but prefers to use a wheel. I guess it depends on the child. Some schools in the Netherlands teach dropspind;ing in kleuterschool (4-5 y/o)

ok, thanks guys
part of me wants to get the wheel just to show the education specialist I meant it when I said I wanted to keep it fun

But I think it really would be a great learning tool-whether she was learning to crochet with what I spun- or trying it herself. I also like that they have 4 books all about fiber crafts. And it seems like playing with fiber is totally age appropriate( for both of us!)

I'd start with felting and wet-felting, tbh (does she do this already?) I have a traditional, and Isaac struggles to treadle it and look at the orifice because of the size of it. The traveller has never really excited me, and they don't do the joy, do they?

I think these are all they have. Maybe they could get it if I requested it?

We do wet-felting already. I was hoping it would be a good intro to really learning about traditional arts and where everything comes from. But since I have only used a drop spindle I am a newbie. I do know I rarely have the patience for a drop spindle. I guess that would also be a good place to start though, for Zoe. we have been trying crochet, and I plan to teach her finger-knitting this week.
