Dragon Lore for 3 year old?

My ds (will be 4 in Oct) is suddenly infatuated with dragons. In fact, he's watching a Discovery Channel "documentary" about them right now. Again.

Any suggestions of books (preferred) or movies involving dragons that aren't too intense for a little kid? He will sit still for longer books (Magic Tree House are his favorite, for example).

TIA!

My Father's Dragon series was a favourite here and would work well for that age.
Dragon Rider is also fairly gentle - a bit suspenseful but not scary for the most part. But it is LONG. The chapters are pretty short though if I remember correctly.

We love Herb the Vegetarian Dragon.

"Dragonology" and "A Natural History of Dragons" would fit right in with the documentary theme ( both are books).

There's also the PBS cartoon (half hour TV show) Dragon Tales. It's certainly appropriate for little ones.

Usborne carries some good titles. We have a "lift-the-flap" book that I got when dd was a toddler, but it's definitely geared more toward 3- to 5-year-olds.

Herb the Vegetarian Dragon has been a big favorite around here, too.

We're also reading The Hobbit right now, but it doesn't cast dragons in a very positive light.

I second the usborne titles. my ds is in a similar boat, and he loves the stories of dragons reader - a bit old for him on a reader-level, but he sits through the stories happily, and they are very kid-friendly. the dragon is the hero in one!

There was a series of books by Stephen Cosgrove I think with Dragolin in the title. They seemed to be nice kind stories.

: I'm off to the library in the morning!

I don't think I can handle Dragon Tales, though. A tot I used to nanny for watched it, and I would get through it by imagining different ways to bump the characters off.

I think Dragonology is way too complex for a young little cub. But maybe just looking at the pictures would be cool. It IS an awesome book. I love all that ---OLOGY series. Egyptology, Dragonology, Wand Making, and a bunch of other wonderful titles.

I agree about Dragon Tales. Not a show that a life long fantasy gamer parent can stomach.

M.P. Robertson has a few dragon books - they're picture books, but beautiful art, worth checking out (from the library, anyway) - and we've read The Egg, The Great Dragon Rescue, and The Dragon Snatcher (this one has the nicest art and dumbest story, btw). It looks like he has more, even, but those are the ones we've seen.

Eric Carle's Dragons Dragons & other creatures that never were

(It's art by Eric Carle + poetry by other poets, with a decent glossary.)

So happy I came upon this thread! My dd (almost 3) is fascinated with dragons right now. So I've been thinking about looking for some books for her.

Jane and the Dragon, by Martin Baynton... and Jane and the Magician. I ordered them from Chinaberry...

Robert Munsch's "The Paper Bag Princess" is a lighthearted little dragon story that young children often enjoy. I'm not sure it'd count as "lore", but it is fun.
