Who is he? what info I could find online makes him seem kind of on the fringes (meta realities and such) ... and my county library has none of his books. I have requested them from ILL, but meanwhile I am curious ... because he is a keynote speaker at the "Rethinking Education" conference in Sept which I am considering attending. Anyone know anything about him?

He wrote some highly regarded books, such as The Magical Child, Magical Parent Magical Child: The Art of Joyful Parenting, and others. If you do a search on his name in the Amazon site, you'll be able to take a closer look. We had him speak at a homeschool conference in California quite a few years ago, and the spectrum of reactions to him was amazing. I saw a friend right after his keynote talk who had been moved to tears, and I really enjoyed him too (had read some of his books) and found a lot of what he said quite profound, whereas I heard some others call him a flake. Either way you look at it, he does make you think, and he does talk/think/write outside the box. Lillian

I read Magical Child when my first was a baby, and I loved it! I remember gushing about different chapters to anyone who would listen. I don't know what I'd think now (some of my philosophies have evolved a bit from what they were then) but I would love to hear him speak! He definitely shaped my ideas, and for me, I found his book and The Continuum Concept to be compatible.

Actually, I'm thinking I want to reread it now. I'm more into the meta stuff now than I was then! So I might get something different out of it now.

Yes, I read and enjoyed it when I had a little one too, although I don't remember much - that book was all the rage then - and "gushing" is exactly what I was doing after hearing him at that conference. But I really got razzed by a couple of friends who weren't on the same page at all. Whatever - a lot of us really enjoyed him. - Lillian

Hey! Lookie what I found!

A write up about that 1997 talk of his I told you about! And it goes into discussion of some of the ideas - or at least his ideas at that time. Lillian

Joseph Chilton Peace is one of the greatest minds of our time. If you have opportunity to see him speak, I'd say GO.
