When is this going to turn into real labor???? ARGGH

Thread Starter
Ive been having tons of BH, lots of pressure and sharp pains for like 2 weeks now. Along with going #2 like 4x a day.

Last night I finally felt what I think were "real" ctx. Hardening and some minor discomfort- like a menstrual cramp. Not timeable and not regular though.

And today I have had pressure ALL DAY LONG, along with a few of those real ctx thrown in. I had PROM with DD at 39w4d and was induced after labor didn't start within 24 hours so i don't know what it feels like to start on your own. Is all of this early labor? Or just annoying false labor?

Get on with it baby!

I've had that for the last couple of weeks as well. Really bad menstraul cramp feelings. They just don't last long enough. So, after not sleeping for days on end I went to the hospital Friday night for morphine so I could sleep. I slept really well, came home, slept some more, and slept great last night. I've had NO contractions since, though. IDK. I've had 7 babies and am still not sure if I remember what *real* contrax feel like.

I feel your pain. I really do.

Some times extended prodromal labor or on and off labor is a sign that baby is not quite in the right position.

I'd suggest reading through the info at http://www.spinningbabies.com to see if there is anything you can do to ensure best position.

My m/w did say that. I've been doing alot of hands and knees (but in the air) stuff. I don't know if it's helping, though. Now I'm not having any contractions....

That's good to know Megan. Do you think that might explain why he keeps turning from side to side? I mean one day his feet are on my left side and the next they are on my right side. And when I do get these waves of timeable ctx they DO hurt and I need to breath thru them (duh, obviously) and I really don't want to interact with anyone during that time (except DH) but I want him here just not to talk to me. Then 2-3 hours later they go away.......maybe I'll do some spinning babies.

Sorry to Hi-Jack your thread mama!!

But his back and butt are always right near my belly button, I can feel them with no problem.....I'm so confused

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I honestly think the prodromal labor is sometimes worse than anything during active labor, because of the emotional component alone!

I just tell myself "It's not labor unless I'm crowning." Otherwise, I'd constantly be thinking I'm in labor! (which frankly, I still do a lot, but my "mantra" helps!)

Another vote for www.spinningbabies.com I SWEAR by their tips.

If he's posterior, then that could actually be his legs/knees. Then, you'd get kicks/punches to both the right & left at different times.

Ekblad, I think not contracting is a good thing. Your body is just resting up for the big day. Would you prefer to be contracting and still not be going into labor? Do you like prodromal labor that well? If so, put your baby back to posterior!

The thing is, we will ALL know when active labor has begun. It's just SO different than this prodromal stuff. Yes, the prodromal stuff is uncomfortable, but it lacks the intensity and the undeniable POWER that active labor gives us.

No easy labor vibes to any of you... I wish you all (and me too!) strong effective powerful labor vibes!

Like everyone else said.

Labor is a tricky term. Sometimes it does not have a "start" time. Sometimes it just blends in with all the pre-labor stuff. Making sure the LO is in the right position (as much as is possible, anyways) is about all one can do.

This is me, too. I have all day long annoying BH CX and then every couple of nights I have "real labor" feeling CX for 3 hours or so and I think it is starting......then it all stops. I wake in the morning to nothing. No mucus plug gone, no effacement, no dilation, etc. Only frequent BM's for the last week (nice). This morning I checked b/c I had some pretty good CX for 3 hourse last night......my cervix is so far back I can't even reach it and the baby's head is so high I can't even tell if it's a head anymore. The baby seems to be going the wrong direction.

My EDD was yesterday/today. So I don't know. I only had stuff like this going on with my first--and this is my sixth. Maybe I'll try some spinning babies, too.

This got sort of long, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone.

I feel your pain. After a week of prodromal labor, I was an emotional mess. I was crying constantly and couldn't even look at a baby without getting jealous and upset. My OB prescribed me some Ambien. I took one and got a really good night sleep. I spent a whole lot of time on hands and knees. The following evening, I went into real labor. Like you, I hadn't actually gone into labor on my own before (prom and then no contractions, lead to Pitocin with #2) so I didn't know if I'd really "know". When it hit, though, I knew. I know it doesn't really help to hear this, but it will happen soon.

My really active, uncomfortable, frequent contractions have been coming in the middle of the night. They're just enough to make it hard to sleep. : Then during the day when I need to be awake, just mild BH ones that I could easily sleep through if I had the opportunity. If only I could get them to trade times, I'd be a happy camper!
