High School Biology

My 16 yr old DD wants to add Biology to her curriculum. I'm stumped as to how to approach this and what books I should get for her. We will also have a kindergartner, and he's fascinated by anything biologically related. This last year we studied the human body, so he learned a lot of anatomy and physiology. I figure he can learn some kind of Biology too, and we can tie it all in somehow, between my 2 school-aged children.

I plan to buy a Brock microscope, but I think I need a biology curriculum, such as a textbook and workbooks. I have no idea what ones to get. We are not creationists, though I don't mind teaching all points of view.

Has anyone had experience with teaching Biology to a High School student?

My middle dd loves the Neil Campbell textbook package (it includes CD-ROM support material and on-line access). The text is "Biology: Concepts and Connections." I think it's a fairly standard AP / first year college text and it gets rave reviews. I did biology and medicine in university and I think it's excellent too, just from a look-see.

I should say that my DD needs a very simple approach to Biology. She's not ahead of the curve, and tends to think like an artist.
I'll have to check out the book, Miranda.

The Campbell book is the most often used one for AP biology. It is a pretty in depth book. If you haven't already done so I'd suggest taking a look at the Homeschool Buyers Co-op deal on Thinkwell's biology lectures. There are quite good. http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/group-buys/ I would consider both of these resources to be appropriate for a high school learner.

If you want more of a rigorous middle school level I'd suggest the Cyber Ed course again available through homeschool buyer's coop.

If she is very visual she might enjoy this book as a supplement to whatever else she's doing. http://www.amazon.com/Biology-Colori...5376326&sr=1-1
We used it as a supplement to Thinkwell and the Campbell text.
