reflux?

I have a 3 year old who has always had a hard time eating. As an infant he went through every kind of formula to find one that didnt make him spit up. we never did find one. he wasnt a picky eater as a 1 and 2 year old but has basically stopped eating vegetables (except yams) since he turned 3, which is hard because we are vegetarian. he complains his belly hurts after or during almost every meal and spits up often throughout the day. its not a full on vomit, but smells like vomit. sometimes a week will go by and no spitting up, then hes back at it. he eats lots of cheese but not too much dairy besides that. he eats practically no sugar at all, or juice. his diet is pretty healthy but i feel so bad for him with the endless puking. oh and it might be useful to add that he is not under weight at all~36 lbs. can anyone tell me what is going on with my kiddo? thanks!

I'm no expert, but my kid had really bad reflux from 0-9 months...and this sounds similar with the spitting.

Chiro care really worked for her. There was immediate relief after each adjustment.

Also, I can't remember the name, but we tried some liquid OTC stuff for reflux for a bit (I just remember it was cherry flavored...maybe Maalox?). It helped, but we didn't use it long since nursing made the pain go away.

Anyway, do you take your son to the chiro? It might be worth a shot.

So i took your advice and contacted the chiro and she said she had never heard of adjustments for reflux and suggested some digestive enzyme. Is the chiro a common treatment? I made ds a dr. appointment but they couldnt get us in for 5 weeks due to school check ups. i guess ds puking all day isnt cause for alarm in their eyes. any other suggestions?

It's most likely food intolerances. If the problem started with formula, it's most likely a milk-soy intolerance (did you ever try an elemental formula like Neocate?). I would try taking him off milk and soy (ALL of it in everything, including cheese, yogurt, etc.) for 2 weeks and see how he does. Did he ever have sleep issues? ear infections? pooping issues? rashes?

Hmm. My chiro focuses on kids and he immediately knew which adjustments to do for reflux. I also have two board friends married to chiros and they both know of the same adjustments.

I think I'd call around to find a new chiro. A LOT of my friends use them for their kids...and everybody seems pleased.
