Cramping

What can I do to relieve the cramps I'm getting? No spotting so that's good. Last night was so bad I woke up at 1am in pain. Is it safe to use a rice bag heating pad? I don't know which would be safer that or just popping some Tylenol?? I really try to avoid taking anything if possible even when I'm not pg.

Sorry you're having so much cramping. I've had just some ever-so-slight cramping every couple of days or so, that didn't hurt, but just felt kind of like things were going on down there.

I was told by a pharmacist that Tylenol is fine, though I understand your worry with taking it anyway. I would be leary of putting anything *too* warm there, either, and you definitely do NOT want to take a hot shower.

I would probably lean more toward the Tylenol, myself, but also make sure to drink lots of water and maybe take/eat some fiber b/c if you are blocked up that can make cramps worse.

At this stage the dr told me with ds there is nothing wrong with a hot shower, just not scalding. Our bodies have a way of regulating. It's when you're farther along that it can be a bad thing (I took a warm bath every single day when I was 9 months along trying to get things moving.

Take some tylenol and drink some chamomile tea (it's safe), it feels sooo good going down and helps ease some of the discomfort.

^ Good to know. I don't take hot showers, but fairly warm ones and I was worried even about that. Technically it's best for your skin & hair to take a cold shower, but *brrr*. I can only rinse in cold water.

I don't know about a hot rice pad. You don't want to raise your body temperature overall while pregnant, but it might be OK for a warm - hot pad placed on the side of the abdomen. Hope the cramps ease up for ya. Tylenol is safe taken in moderation and small quantities!

I typically avoid placing anything warm against my belly that is just going to sit there. There is nowhere for the heat to really disperse...kwim? The way I dealed with my cramping (sent me to the ER the other day) was rest, and trying to NOT think about it. I thought for sure I was miscarrying, noppers, implantation and growing pains. I do highly suggest the tea. It's been proven to help relieve menstrual cramps and other pains, and it's safe for pregnancy. Even ice it if you want to and put a sprig of fresh mint or a wedge of lemon in it if you want. Just not honey. Botulism can be in it.

Been getting a lot of cramping too, but it's bearable. I would think a warm, rather than hot, rice bag would be ok, but I'm not sure how much it would help.

And I always have hot showers all through pregnancy, btw. I turn the temp down a tiny bit from when I'm not pregnant, but not very much. I don't think you shower long enough to raise your core temp. I even went in the hot tub with ds2, but I was very careful to not stay in for very long because that will raise the core temp.
