Graphic tmi question...

Okay so I have hemmoroids. I got them after having Henri too, but this time they are much much worse and I've actually been bleeding quite a bit after using the bathroom. Should I just wait and let them heal on their own or should I actually call a doctor? The amount of blood is kind of scary... But I don't feel sick or weak or anemic and would hate to think what a doctor might want to do

toh, sorry to be short...
Have you done anything for them to reduce them at all? That's where I would start...

Probably all a dr or mw would do would be to give you a RX for suppositories that will help them shrink.
I had them after my last birth and that's what they gave me.
I don't think the dr or mw would do anything to you.

Not in your DDC, but I've had bleeding hemorrhoids for a very long time (since I was 14).

As long as the blood is bright red and you know it's coming from a hemorrhoid, I would not worry at all. The amount of blood you see can look like a LOT, but it usually really isn't. It doesn't take that much blood to make a whole toilet bright red. You generally do not loose more than a few mL (less than they take for a blood test), even though it seems like a lot.

I would say call your doctor if you experience a lot of pain that doesn't seem related to going to the bathroom, or if it doesn't stop bleeding on its own. Or if your stools become black and tarry. Otherwise, just relax.

ok, i feel your pain.... well, i felt it, that is..lol
i had horrible problems with this after dd1 and could barely sit at 4wks pp. i had used the steroid creams or suppositories that were prescribed by my midwife but they seemed to do *nothing*. it was the worst, most horrible part of my postpartum life.... i never thought silly hemorrhoids could do that.
fastforward to this preg/birth...i had hemorrhoids (not painful or bothersome) during pregnancy so i knew i was doomed after the birth....and i was right as rain. well i took a radically different approach than the last time. i remained upstairs and in bed for nearly a FULL week... off my bottom for almost the whole time. this was paramount. also i did calmoseptine ointment, garlic (not to be used if there is bleeding though...i think it's pretty caustic to open tissue), herbal sitz once a day and warm sitz two additional per day. i took a product called fruit-eze (had on hand for my dd1's constipation issues...) to avoid constipation...this product is great if you have issues like this for anyone in the family! SO by 2wks pp I was nearly all better. Which was shocking for me considering how it went w/ dd1.... over a month i swear. i was miserable in my immediate pp days...crying and whining b/c i thought for sure i was in for another month of pain and i thought it was so unfair b/c i had this fabulous homebirth and i just wanted to get out and about and show everyone how wonderful i was doing (yes, i'm a loser).
I started really getting out and about with both kids at 2wks and, guess what? everyone thought i was looking/doing so wonderfully! so it worked afterall...
wow, really long post but i just feel so badly for anyone suffering with this issue...especially while caring for one or more children!!
hope something helps!!

Hemmoroids are very scary. Those suckers can bleed like crazy. I haven't had any bleeders (yet) but I just took my husband to the emergency room a couple weeks ago, because he had one suddenly errupt and bleed a lot.

He was given a couple prescriptions, and instructed to soak in a warm tub or sitz bath twice a day with epsom salt mixed in. He was also told to avoid spicy and fibery foods, and not to use toilet paper for his BMs, but Tucks pads. A week later our GP looked at him and told him he wouldn't need to see a proctologist or surgeon, bc he was healing great.

He's doing fine now and back to his old bbq eating self (but he eats a little more produce now, too).

I've had them ever since having my first... In my experience time does the trick... I'm still using my beloved squeeze bottle esp. after last night...

It gets better!!

Oh those really suck. Fiber fiber fiber. Keep things soft going out and they won't hurt and bleed so bad. You could even suck it up and take a stool softener if you can't seem to get enough fiber to loosen things up.

Well, I did make a post partum bath tea with lots of comfrey in it... I guess I was afraid to use it since I've been bleeding. But maybe I'll try some of that again. The pain is not fun at all, I dread having to "go". I could try making a poultice with the fresh leaves too, which wouldn't be a bad idea considering my comfrey is huge and about to take over the neighborhood...
