Heck, ok. I may as well do a name thread, too. Got nothing better to do to kill time for the next few weeks

Ok, the baby's name is Madeleine, French pronunciation (mad-LYN). I am Cajun, and my heritage is important to me. DH has NO IDEA what he is and doesn't care all that much.

So French first name, and I am wanting to also have a French 2nd name, then it will be my last name as a 3rd name (which is French, LeBlanc), and dh's last name as a last (Glenn).

So, here are the current contenders:

Anaise - this is my #1 choice, hands down. It was my great grandmother's name, and I love it. dh seems a little more ambivalent on it. (Ana-EESE)

Alizé - It means the trade wind. (Al-e-ZAY)

Soleil - Sun! (soul-AY)

Azure - (a-ZURE) blue sky

Cécile - another family name (say-SEEL)

Hélicie - Sunshine! (ay-lease-SEE)

Dh hasn't had much imput on this yet and is driving me nuts. But of course, the final decision will be one he'll be on

I don't much care whether or not people will know how the heck to pronounce properly. My name is Rachel and people have struggled with that all my life. And Madeleine of the French origin also seems hard for some people. I have figured out it simply doesn't matter if your name is Bob, someone will have an issue figuring it out at some point.
But I thought I would ask opinions, cause it's fun.

Poll to follow momentarily!

my grandmother is french and her name is madeleine as is my middle name and she had a sister cecile. she moved to italy as a very young girl and then to america with her family. they moved to a german/russian/irish community...and she always complained... "no one could ever say our names."

these are beautiful names...just beautiful...hopefully people will take the time and learn to pronounce them.

Oooh, I love the name Anais but voted for Soleil because it flows so well with Madeleine.

I voted for Alizé - it's just so pretty! But my second runner up would be Cécile. Very pretty names!

My vote goes to Anaise, it sounds so pretty!!

Beautiful names, all of them!

I like them all except for Alize, only because it reminds me too much of the drink. Helicie is nice to me in particular.

Of course...

I still like "Crimefighter" as a middle name.

I'm the Cthulhugrrl's DH, btw

I love the way Alize sounds.

I like Crimefighter, too. I'd definitely go with Crimefighter.

I do like Anaise.
Also, given the choices, it's almost a shoo-in since I have a profound allergic reaction to the accent ague, and don't want to have to take antihistamines just to pronounce my daughter's name.

How about Crimefighter Madeleine? It's like a superhero.

Seriously, I like Anaise, but I am partial to family names. They are all lovely. DH and I were reviewing names the other night since we are still undecided as well and he said "I would hate for her to have a name that she has to spell for people every time she says it." To which I replied, "It isn't that bad. You get used to it." (My name is both a spell-needer and hyphenated.) So, people will figure it out.

Hm, I voted Helicie because I think it's really pretty and I love the meaning, but seeing that you don't like the accent ague, I think I might switch my vote to Soleil. I think it's the one that flows best with the rest of the name, and I still love the meaning. Plus, it's a word that a lot of people should already be familiar with, so you might have less pronunciation problems than with some of the others. I like Anaise fine, but I don't think it flows quite as easily with the reast of the names (it seems a little long and choppy to me). But that's really a pretty small thing, so if you love Anaise, I'd go for it.

I voted for Soleil but Anaise was a close second. They are both beautiful names and I think that they both flow equally well.

Thanks for the feedback, mamas! (And dh).

@ the accent aigu thing. Poor dh, his hatred for the French language knows no bounds! (We took a French class together several years ago, and he dropped half way through, I finished with a 99. We did have a HARD prof for it & I had many years of French prior to this, though, to be fair)

I do like all the names. I voted for Alize.

But I know Anaise is your favorite, "hands down," and it sounds like your husband is more than open to it after all. So that probably cements the choice for you! (Hopefully.)

We've been jockeying middle names recently. I think we've settled on them, though.
