Use their handprints to make a crab. Glue sand under that crab. Glue on googly eyes...it's cute!

Ideas from seeing our preschool teacher in action (and working in the class - it's a parent co-op preschool/parent education program):

- take a string of yarn, child dips it in paint (preferably biocolor paint from discountschoolsupply.com) and drags it on the page.

- get some cardboard (can be the back of a cereal box, whatever) and some colored pebbles (from the fish store) and glue. Child can make a BROOCH (you need to glue the pin to the back). You can agree on a design (star, circle, whatever) and child will fill it in with each pebble.

- paint some rocks

- I can't think of anything else....

visit your local library, they have tons of great crafty books.

One technique that my almost 6 year old is fond of right now is to paint something on half of the paper and then fold it in half to make a mirror image.

My boys did corn syrup painting at summer camp this morning. It dries glossy and looks very cool. I think it was just made of food coloring and corn syrup, but you can google corn syrup painting and there are lots of instructions.

I just got Scribble Art from the library, it's got some great ideas. I think we'll try the marble painting next.

DD used to like having a baking sheet with a few blobs of paint. She would swirl it round for ages, sometimes we layed a sheet of paper on top to take a print, sometimes not.

Use old toothbrushes instead of paint brushes

Thick paint with combs or other things to make patterns is fun

Printing with things you find around the house, cookie cutters, lids, wheeling toy cars through paint etc.

Use a large sheet of paper and paint a background (sky, road, grass etc) then cut out other pictures and stick them on. We're doing a beach over the summer with a counting theme, 1 sun, 2 clouds, etc. I'm cutting out our pictures from the holiday snaps for 4 people on the beach.

I would like to withdraw my suggestion of corn syrup painting....well, or maybe add a caveat. I hung them up on the refrigerator this morning after letting them dry for 2 days. Well, it was hot in the house, and I just noticed that they melted all down the refrigerator! Icky, sticky brightly colored corn syrup! That was fun to clean up.

Maybe I should have realized that that might happen, but I didn't even think about it. So, just be forewarned!

make shoes prints out of old shoes.

use food coloring in water.

put kool-aif on paper or anything, take ice and paint over it, watch what happens!

use blueberries, black berries, strawberries as paint!

texture painting is always a big hit! Give them a big sheet of paper and in different bowls of paint put coconut in one bowl, baking soda in one, salt in another, coffee grounds in another, a few drops of vanilla extract in another, bubbles in one... etc. The possibilities are kind of endless. Let them fingerpaint to their hearts content Warning this is a super messy project but every time we do this with my preschool class they love it

We did shaving cream finger painting yesterday - it was awesome!

mix white glue WITH shaving cream, it will dry like a "puffy" paint

paint with Q tips, cotton balls, rubber bands bunched on the end of a dowel, attach a paint brush to a helmet, drag cars thru paint........

paint ON sandpaper, rocks, cardboard, bubble wrap, felt, foam,
coffee filters, anything textured, burlap
