Baby's not dropping

Hi All,

Anyone else having a second or subsequent baby who refuses to engage? I'm a little confused... I thought it was common for sub babies to not drop until labor, but my mw seems concerned. I'm 38wks, and he's LOT, but way high up. My mw has me doing stairs and lunges and squats to try to get him to engage. She hasn't said anything, but I can tell from her non-verbals that she is worried that he won't fit. It does feel like there is a huge overlap of the head over the pubic bone. She was asking me what the circumference of my first baby's head was, which of course I can't remember. But my first's birth ended as a very traumatic hb transfer (not that anything really dangerous happened, it was just traumatic for me bc I so badly wanted a hb). He was asynclitic/posterior, hours and hours of no break (literally, none) back labor cntrx, and narrowly escaped a vaccuum delivery. So I guess we're all worried about a repeat of that happening. Please reassure me that your babies are still floating too! Thanks!

I had almost an identical first birth experience as yours, except I did end up with a vacuum birth. My midwives are also a bit concerned that baby has not dropped, not even close. I also read that sub babies don't drop until labor so I am confused. I did do some techniques from www.spinningbabies.com to help move her in the right position (she was facing sunny side up), and so far it has seemed to work. I tried the inversion and the open knee chest positions. They help open the brim and allow for babies who may be bigger to re-position themselves and settle into the pelvis.

My last baby (#3) didn't drop until my water broke, and I had already been in labour for 3 or 4 hours. When I arrived at the hospital everyone was marvelling that I was in labour with a baby that was still so high up. She still came out fine, the only thing was that with her being so high the doc's at the hospital wouldn't AR my membranes becasue they were concerned that her cord could prolapse but they broke on their own and all was fine. She was born soon after at 8lbs 7oz and had no trouble coming out.

41 weeks here with my second, and the babe is still high. My MW keeps commenting on it, but isn't really having me do anything. But then, my babe has tons of room keeps flipping around in there, so maybe she doesn't want me to encourage her/him to engage before we're sure s/he's staying in a good position.

My Ob said that it's normal for sub babies to not engage until labor begins. This babe (#3) is still very high up as well. I'm 38 wks 3 days

Most of my subsequent babies have been floaters until labor began. I would not worry yet.

yep, baby #5 here and the first four were floating high and this one has dropped a bit but is very far from engaged. none of my babies engage till the very end and my water has broken. but the good part is they all come out with wonderfully round little heads.
