Wicking through Loop Tape?

I made some covers with PUL and TouchTape and they do great unless I leave them on for more than one pee job. If I leave them on longer they seem to wick a lot around the loop tape in the front. Do I just need to change my habits and change ds more often, or am I doing something wrong?

I am just getting frustrated with cloth because my prefolds are all coming apart and my covers are leaking. And then I don't have very many to begin with.

What kind of thread did you use? If you use anything other than polyester, it can cause wicking. Also, there will almost always be some wicking around the stitching holes in the PUL, since it really just leaves holes in the material.

I used 100% polyester. I guess he is just a big wetter and needs changed more often. I just get frustrated sometimes because I don't have enough diapers and the ones I do have right now are falling apart. So I guess I'm gonna have to make more. And thanks for the tip, it's good to know I am not making them wrong.

I had the same problem

i sewed a 2 or 3 inch strip of pul on the inside if the diaper to cover the area where the touchtape is. I just sewed the strip on the top and side edges into the fold over elastic binding, leaving the bottom edge unsewn. I don't know if that makes sense how I explained it...I don't have pictures just yet. Anyways, it completely solved the problem.

So you just sewed that OVER the back of the touchtape? I've seen an extra piece sewn on with the touchtape as a reinforcement, but that would make sense to sew a piece on over it. Thank you so much for the tip.

yeah, I just kind of made a "patch" of PUL on the inside of the diaper to cover the stitching that holds the touchtape, so no liquid can make contact with the stitches.
