Info on Trillium Charter school in Portland

Before I contact them directly about their program I was wondering if anyone here knew about their program? None of the democratic free schools that have attempted to be charter schools have lasted in Minnesota. I am wondering how close this school is to free schooling and how they do it??
thanks

I wish there were some responses to your question. I live blocks away from Trillium and we're applying there for next year because our neighborhood school has been so awful.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me more about the philosophy of "free school" or "democratic school"? I'm confused. I'll be going to their info session soon but thought if there's anyone here who has a child enrolled it would be great to get an insider's view.

I know two people who post regularly to the monthly PDX Big Thread who have kids at Trillium. You might try asking your question in that tribal forum.

My son is at the Village Free School, which is a democratic free school. If they became a charter school, they'd have to do standardized testing, which would go against the basic idea of the free schools (non-coercive, child-led). It's a private school, so there's tuition, but it's very low as private schools go...otherwise, my son wouldn't be there.

If it turns out that I can't continue to pay tuition at VFS, I'll definitely check out Trillium more closely. The one family I know well with a kid there really like it.
