Need advice--buying a crib

Thread Starter
We really, really wanted to share our bed with DD, but neither DD nor I sleep well together in bed. We are now thinking about getting a crib and sidecarring it to our bed so we each have a little more space. I know a lot of cribs have problems with formaldehyde and other nasty chemicals. I know most of the moms on here probably don't use cribs, but for those who do.. anyone have any recommendations for a crib that is non-toxic, as green as possible, fairly inexpensive, and can be sidecarred easily? TIA!!

I htink it's real important to buy a crib several months before using it to allow off gassing. My parents bought us a mainstream crib when DS was 6 mos and he would never go in it (loved sleeping with us and the crib was stinky).

I'm researching mattresses and saw cribs in http://www.anaturalhome.com/

Do you have kids consignment shops where you live? They sell used cribs that meet the safety standards (though it would also be good to double-check before you buy). The used cribs and mattresses would be done off-gassing, no?

We're buying a crib that is solid wood (no pressboard or plastics). I am still trying to decide on the mattress as I'm not sure if I can get an organic cotton/wool mattress down here. If I have to get a traditional mattress I'm going to leave in the carport to off-gas as long as possible & then put an organic cotton/wool mattress cover on it.
