Worried your water will break at the grocery store?

So, my MW said this week that she thinks I have a lot of fluid and that when my water breaks that it will be quite "spectacular." I went to the grocery store yesterday and all I could think about was my water breaking in the middle of the store!

Anyone else paranoid like me?

Oooh, spectacular water breakage!!! That sounds AWESOME!!!!

Hoping your water breaks AFTER labor begins.

I am now!! LOL! I had AROM with both pregnancies, so I can't see it happening to me, really. Even though I am planning to stay at home for as long as possible, so it could happen here.
Maybe you should carry a jar of pickles in your purse, then drop it on the floor if your water does break!!

The "jar of pickles" comment just made me laugh hysterically

I actually have a towel in my car for that very reason. Don't know why I am so paranoid about it since I had to be induced last time, but I am.

Oh, my mom was here for the weekend and she said to me "Teneal, try not to let your water break in the store, OK" and I just laughed (she was totally kidding BTW) and I replied, I think it'd be funny. Then the cash register lady also said, please don't go into labor in my line, to which I replied even if I did I'd have PLENTY of time to get to the hospital, no worries.

Come on water breakage!!!

Nope, because statistically speaking labors begin more often at night. My water has broken first all 3 times, but always at night: 12am, 9:30pm, 3am. And honestly I'm barely leaving the house anymore, so I'm not worried at all. But I kept a bath towel in the car next to me during the last month of my first pregnancy, LOL.

this is EXACTLY what my MW told me to do (joking of course ) when i expressed concern over my water breaking in public while pg with my dd!

my water has never broken untill minutes before both kids were born, so it's not something i'm thinking about.

i guess it could happen, but it would be a shock for me! lol

i think i have a lot of fluid this time too. seems like more than in the past, and even before, there on a hospital bed, it's pretty much exploded all over the room! lol (i really sprayed the dr with ds. didn't like her anyway.... lol)

i'm lol over the jar of pickles...

It's not like peeing your pants in public. People won't be all disgusted -I have a friend who was in a restaurant when hers broke and everyone applauded and wished her luck! If it happens in a store, ask if you get some sort of special discount? LOL
I carry a change of pants/undies and a diaper for an emergency-water-break-in-public-kit just in case.

I have always been scared of this! But seeing as I was in labor and having contractions with both of mine before my water broke, I'm hoping it's going to be the same this time! (I was at the hospital already when water broke with DD. I was at home with DS, but he was down so low that it broke and came out during one contraction and he settled himself in so well that no more came out at all til HE came out! LOL)

I, too, keep towels in teh car for this reason! (I also keep a trash bag, too, just in case it leaks through the towels - even though my fluid levels are low... What can I say? I'm paranoid!)

I'm a little concerned about it happening on the subway, but people seem to be making way for me. They all look at me like they may be called to help deliver at any second. It's hysterical.

I've often wondered what it would feel like it if broke while swimming - would you even know it had happened??

Oh, so my water has broken 4 times and each time I was at home. Just thought I'd offer that up.

My friend's water broke on the boardwalk when she was walking. She said it was not spectacular though, more like peeing herself!

I'm almost a week past my due date now so I don't really care WHERE labor starts, as long as its soon

i think it would be kind of cool/ what a neat beginning to the future birth story of your child!

i have never had mine break before transition.

I think I remember reading that water breaks BEFORE labor starts only about 10% of the time, so it's not that common. Plus, with labor usually starting at night, that makes it even less common that you'll be out in public. Thankfully! So I'm not that worried about it.

We have an in-ground pool & that Q had occured to me! Although I thought you'd probably feel the WARMTH of the water as it came rushing out your vagina, so you'd realize. Kinda like if you pee in the ocean, you feel it come out & feel it around you. (OK, I know, GROSS! But we've all done it at least once in our lives!

Oh Ruby! That is too funny about the subway!!!!!

I was thinking this SAME thing about the swimming as I was at the gym pool last night and I kept thinking - after all my bedrest for preterm labor and because I had a contraction or two by this time - "What if my water breaks while I'm in here? Will I know it?" And then praying that it WOULDN'T, seeing as there was a water aerobics class going on and then after that some other people swimming! I can't imagine they would wanna be in the pool if it broke! Ha ha ha

Mine broke as I was getting into a friends car at the auto mechanics! 8:28 in the morning... and it was definately SPECTACULAR... but honestly, other than my friend who I had to tell no one paid any attention. Now the stop at a fast food restaurant on the way to the hospital JUST so I could change my pad... that was funny. Both the manager and the clerk at the register acted like I was using their bathroom to give birth. (DH JUST HAD to tell them why we stopped there and weren't buying anything)

With DD1 I had no fear of my water breaking in public, even though my best friend (whom I worked with) had her water break at work. It didn't break in public, it actually was broken at the hospital because I hadn't progressed (and luckily, it made me progress fast).

Now with DD2, I feel wayyy more paranoid about it breaking in public, like my brain knows that's what WILL happen. It's so weird but it's such a strong feeling for me... I've even told DH that after next week I won't be going grocery shopping anymore. If I do, I will definitely put a jar of pickles in my cart, LOL.
