henna, gray hair & the beach

no its not the title to my (as yet unwritten novel ) but a quick question..

so I desperately need to cover up my gray hairs that are coming in (in bunches) everywhere on my head. bleh. and i was thinking about doing a henna wash/color...but I think I remember reading or hearing in my travels that henna doesn't cover up gray so well. Is that true? And if I do go ahead & henna my head, will spending lots of time in the sun & surf effect the color? Or should I just wait until after vacation....

Just curious to see what other people do.....

Henna is the only thing that covers my gray hairs. But it is permanent - if you want to be a permanent redhead, go for it - make sure you read up on it, I researched and researched before I did and settled on the hennaforhair site info and products.

I love red hair and am happy with it. It does NOT fade like chemical red hair dyes. I live by the beach and my hair keeps its flaming vibrant red in sun, salt and chlorine. What color you get really depends on your base hair color - henna adds orange-red to your existing color. Some blend henna with indigo to get more brown in the mix. Good luck, whatever you decide to do!

ahhh but i am a victim of my own vanity....

...and its like in weird places & patchy...like my bangs and then bits on the side of my head, kind of like its been streaked or a bad highlight job.....once it really gets going, I think maybe i'd let it be, but its that in between stage and i thought maybe the henna would tide me over until my grays get their act together and grown in all at once

You might do better with something designed to cover grays and match your base color- it sounds like you may end up with random splotches of bright red instead of random splatches of gray.

I read somewhere that adding 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to the henna mix helps cover the grey better.
