Biophysical profile

My very low intervention midwives suggested that I make an appt. for a biophysical profile for next tuesday (that would put me at 41+4, if i'm still pregnant by then).

These are the same midwives that are very laid back about me opting out of all other testing, don't use dopplers, etc. So I'm thinking if they want me to go, it's for a good reason-they are certainly not test happy. They said they recommend it for all clients who go past 41 weeks.

Thoughts? anyone had one done? do homebirth midwives recommend them often?

I'm getting nervous because the midwives can't deliver my baby at home past 42 weeks, and I have no real signs of labor yet. I guess my chances of going into labor before then are good but ugh! I wish it would just happen already so I could quit worrying and snuggle a baby

My mw is low interventions as well and suggested a bpp around 41 weeks. Hopefully I'll have my babe before then, but we'll see. My mw can't deliver me past 42w either b/c I'm a VBAC so I'm getting a little nervous about that, but just trying to trust that babe will come when ready.

The BPP checks fluid levels around the baby, the cord for blood flow, the placenta, the size of the baby, for beathing in and out for 30 seconds, and flexion or extention. Just a good precautionary thing. I have them 2x a week, and it's about 30 mins long. Keeps me at ease really.

I had one at 41 weeks last time too. They check to make sure baby is still gorwing fine, fluid levels are good, and placenta is healthy (blood flow is good etc...).

Not a big deal

Lurking from August- Tenk described them perfectly, but mine go much faster. If the baby is co-operative, the tech can check everything in 5-10 mins. I've been having them every week for the past 6 wks.

Hope all looks good and your homebirth is still a go!

My midwife normally suggests it past 42 weeks, but in my case, she actually thinks it might be too upsetting for me (bringing flashbacks of everything that happened around the arrival of my son) so she is leaving the decision to me. I monitor with kick counts and a fetoscope anyway, but of course I would rather the baby come NOW.
