Help! My dog ate an entire roll of toilet paper!

Help! My dog ate an entire roll of toilet paper! She's a 14 month old 35 pound Shephard/Beagle mix. My baby, Tara. What do I do? Does she need medical attention? Do I feed her anything or push liquids or something? How do I know if she's in pain or distress? If was an entire fresh new double roll put on the toilet paper holder. She's been so good out of her crate lately that we tried a trial run while we were out for about 3 hours tonight. What do I need to do?!

Oh my goodness. I would call an after hours ER type place and ask. I know I've heard before that dogs can't digest paper products and it can create a blockage.

First off - she's adorable!

I would make sure she has access to water & keep a close eye on her. Toilet paper dissolves well in water (which is why it is flushable) so I would think if she doesn't throw it up (which is what my dog would eventually do) it'll eventually pass through her system. Just try to keep an eye on her elimination & eating & keep an eye on her stomach (is it hot or distended?).

I thought for sure this was going to be a lab. (And she IS very cute!)

But unless she swallowed it whole, which I think would be impossible, I would try not to worry. I would probably hold off on other food until she starts passing the paper.

I agree--this too shall pass.

You worry about anything that has strings or could form a string (fabric, tinsel, thread) and of course anything that is very thin and sharp like a pin. But even things that are shockingly inappropriate (nails, etc.) are usually just monitored to make sure the dog gets rid of it on its own.

One of my dogs managed to get ahold of some used tampons. It was joyous monitoring him every day but he did manage to pass them all.

So glad we have knowledgeable folks on this board. Hope it passes quickly! That's a lot of tp.

Oh no! I hope she passes it quickly.

My dog ate part of a baby's sheepskin. It did come out eventually.

Okay, from the sound of you guys, it sounds like it's not a horribly big deal, as long as I keep an eye on her that it passes. She did look a little green last night- I though she'd puke during the night-but she's pretty much acting normal right now. In fact, she just ate a piece of fuzz off the floor. I'll keep an eye on hre. Thank you everybody.
