Best Double Point Needles?

So, I'm knitting my mittens and I have broke two #3 needles so far. I fear that my ebay purchase of bamboo dpns have shown my ignorance in my "cheap isn't always bad" philosophy. Ahrg. I knit quite loose, so my problem isn't too much pressure. I think these needles are bad.

What kind of needles do you use that you would recommend to others. I really do not like metal of any kind. Perhaps it comes from all those years of wearing braces?? Has anyone used the Harmony dpn sock needles from Knit Picks? I like smaller needles sizes that are about 6 inches long, 5 inches would also work. Also, I don't have a whole lot of extra $$$ to spend.

Thanks ladies!

I've only ever used the Clover bamboo dpns. I have size 1 and 2 and have used them on multiple projects and none have broken. Unfortunately the Michaels near me doesn't seem to carry dpns in sizes smaller than 6 or 7 so I had to order them online. I think I may invest in the Harmony set, though. I don't care for the feel of metal needles.

Oh, and my 6 year old uses them as batons to conduct his 4 year old sister.

I read on ravelry that breaking the dpn is pretty common someone suggested Susan Bates sock kit. I know they are metal...but if they don't break...they seem more cost effective.

My Harmony dpns are my favourite. I only have one set of 2.5s, but they've made 4 or 5 pairs of socks so far. Also, they come with 6 needles to a set, so if you do break one, you've got an immediately available spare! I want to order more, I like them that much, but we're heading into a no-spending spell (well, I am, since I've been spending a bit too easily lately, and I'm not happy with myself!), so I'm putting of placing a Knitpicks order for a while.

Grafton Darn Pretty Needles

I've used just about every dpn available since 1970- these are the best. Very nice points, Vermont maple- they don't break. And absolutely beautiful in your hands. Available at yarn shops or google Grafton Darn Pretty needles.

Wow, those Grafton needles look exactly like the Harmony needles. Both made of laminated wood, rainbow colors. Harmony is quite a bit cheaper.

Thanks for all of your help. I think that I will try out the Harmony at this point and move on to other needles in the future.

dpns

The grafton needles are not the same as the harmony ones. graftons are made from Vermont maple, by hand, in vermont. The harmony ones are much softer and the points are not as good. Depends on what you are knitting but for socks and other small needle (size 1,2,3,4) projects, the grafton are the best.

I only use brittany birch DPNs. I don't like metal and I don't like bamboo. Haven't broken one yet *knock on wood*

they have a 5 year warranty, so if you break them, you can get a replacement.
