Milk coming in with second child- a ?

With DD my milk came in fairly quickly- less than 48 hours I think. It came hard and fast and hurt like heck- my boobs looked like footballs and I wore pads for 9 months!

With my new babe (he was born like 36 hours ago) my boobs have gotten a lot bigger in the past few hours, and are heavy and full, but when I squeeze some out it still looks like colostrum. did my milk come in and I just don't know it? Do you not get that crazy rush the second time around?

Both of mine it came in within a day but I don't think I got as uncomfortable the second time. I remember how huge and uncomfortable I felt the 1st time for days, but the 2nd time it didn't seem to be as bad.

I think it came in more quickly with each of my births. With my last one it came in at about 24 hours. But he also nursed almost straight the first 24 hours, so that could have been why.

My milk came in about 5 days pp with my first child. We had a rough delivery and she was in the NICU for about a half a day before I able to nurse her for the first time. When my milk came in with her my breasts swelled and I looked like Dolly Parton and milk just starting running so hard that it was dripping all over the floor. When I nursed her she would cough and sputter because of how full they were.

With baby #2 I never got that, it felt like my milk was in at birth but it probably was because my older child wanted to quit nursing about a month prior to my second's birth. Also, with my second I had a very smooth delivery, she came out and was placed on my chest and immediately latched and nursed on and off for about an hour. I didn't have to wear pads for leaking forever like I did with baby 1 either. So what you're describing sounds normal to me.

Mine came in about 36 hours after I had my second baby. It was transitional stuff for a while - looked like melted orange sherbet when it dribbled out of her mouth - but definitely not just colostrum. It was "normal" milk by about day 2 or 3.

Mine came in around 36 hours with #1 and 30 hours with #2. This time I was barely engorged, maybe once when he slept for four hours. I think your body is just more efficient the second time - and you typically get the hang of nursing easier so you just don't always have as much engorgement and discomfort.

It wasn't really uncomfortable at all the second time. I didn't get as "overfull" as I did the first time.

Just had my third (thursday). With #1, serious engorgement - ow! With #2, very full quite tender. This time? Full, a little sensitive. So, in my experience, it's gotten easier with each one.
