Refusing to brush teeth!

Desperately seeking teeth brushing tips! My dd is 17 months and just won't let me in there:
She only has six or so teeth and is constantly going through teething. Since she started teething she won't let me in her mouth! I let her play with the tooth brush but that doesn't go very far. Any tips would be appreciated.

an electric toothbrush worked wonders with my two year old when she went thru that phase.
