So, after delivery.... a question

We're going to have Newb put on my belly immediately and delay all procedures (barring emergency) other than the cord cutting after the placenta is expelled. Anyway, do they put a diaper on the baby immediately? Or do you just get pooped and peed on and don't care? Cause I think I might care, but I'm not sure how the logisitics all work

They don't pee and poop all that much at the beginning usually. And if your baby does you probably won't notice

I got pooped on this time around... but that was the least of my worries by then you'll be gucky by then anyway

I was peed on immediately after delivery last time. I didn't care.

no one put a diaper on my baby but i generally dont let anyone touch them for a bit anyway! lol! (except dad of course!). i think he was a few hours old when i put a diaper on him. i would not have cared to get peed or poo'd on...its such a small thing in comparison.

No diaper, but 1) it probbably won't happen and b) if it does you seriously won't even notice, let alone care.

If it does happen, it'll be the first of many, many times! Puke, pee, poop, you get used to it all!

It's sterile anyway.

DS pooped on me in a major way, and he was just snuggled on me in a receiving blanket, so it smeared all over. I didn't care, it wasn't smelly. When I was ready I got up and took a shower and we cleaned baby off gently with wipes and put him in a diaper (we used sposies until his milk poops came in).

DS was on me for 3 hours before they put a dipe on him and if he went I sure didn't notice.

DS pooped on me almost right away and I didn't notice it for a while. It was no biggie though...no smell and tiny as could be. There is so much other emotion and stuff happening that you won't even notice. Besides-I like the idea of DS not having anything on him at first so we can hang out skin to skin for a while.

I put my baby on my belly right away, and he pooped right away. (quite a bit, too!) But I didn't care. My doula wiped up most of it with a blanket. Me and baby stayed in bed naked together for about two hours. Then I got up for a bath and turned DS over to the nurse for weighing, diapering, and a T-shirt while I was in the bath. We totally declined all newborn procedures. (except heel stick, which was a couple days later)

Both girls peed ALL OVER my OB and myself after delivery, yeah everyone noticed but no one cared...we laughed really hard. No big deal.

Just make sure the first blankets aren't ones you mind messing up, and do any wiping up needed with them. My son pooped on the way out!

Oh and you can allow the newborn exam with baby right there on you.

hmmm, I didn't even notice whether DD peed because like someone said you are all yucky by then anyway, plus you are so in with the baby!

We didn't diaper/clothe DS for several hours after the birth. He was already covered in meconium and everything else, so a little extra pee or poo was no problem at that point. He didn't pee or poo on me, though.

If any of my 3 have pooped or peed on me during the initial naked bonding time... I never noticed!

I will only be the first of MANY MANY times you get peed and poop'd on. One of the badges of mother hood:

We put the diaper on once I hand the baby over to my DH so I can clean up. So it just depends on how long I am holding Baby.

DS pooped but it was mostly (entirely?) on the blanket we had over top of him, so we just wiped him gently with the pooped on blanket and replaced it with a clean one. He wasn't diapered until a while later when I got up to shower and he got weighed and measured and so forth.
