Wow, what a difference having a different CNM to talk to can make!
Here is how it went.
We had to go to L & D to do the NST since it is a weekend. I was very nervous and stressed. Even though I was trying VERY hard to relax, I just couldn't. When we got checked in they put a bracelet on my arm which kind of bugged me.
The nurse that set me up on the monitor was very nice. I had eaten before I came and was chugging a bottle of apple juice/water I had brought with me. Baby was active and heart rate stayed up with a few decels but like last time, nothing abnormal.
So then the midwife came in to do the ultrasound. I was SO GLAD it was a midwife because when they checked me in they had put this OB's name by my name and that had me feeling very scared.
So anyway, the midwife did the ultrasound and she asked if what we were seeing looked different then Thursdays. We said not really but we couldn't really tell. She said, well I am finding little pockets but I don't really like when I have to look hard to find it. But she started measuring pockets and came up with about 4 point something.
So then she turned it off. It was time to talk. I was nervous because the fluid was below 5, I know they like to see above 5 and closer to 8.
She was so awesome about everything. She basically said, look here is the deal, most people would be pressuring you to induce but I know that is not what you want. Your strip looked great. Also, ultrasound is not really incredibly accurate. At that point I told her that I had done the castor oil yesterday and while I had been trying very hard to stay hydrated, that could have affected things. She agreed with me and told me that I could increase my fluid level by 50% with oral rehydration. My DH asked her about the calcifications on the placenta. Again she told us, there is really a lot of debate about that, if it even means anything and that ultrasounds are not the be all and end all. I can't even remember everything but she was so awesome. She suggested me coming back tomorrow, I said "What about Monday?" that was fine with her. Then I asked her about possible induction at 42 weeks and she basically said, look the risk increases from 4 to 7 per 1000 births after 42 weeks but that is still a very small number so lets just see how it goes, keep monitoring you. If inducing labor becomes an option, then we just need to evaluate where you are at that time to decide what is best.
So really, besides the lower fluid, it really couldn't have gone better. Oh yeah, my bp was up but I really think that was related to being so nervous. So here I am, drinking away! Let's hope this baby comes before Monday because I hate those NST's.
Thanks to everyone who was praying for me/sending good thoughts. God may have not sent me into labor but he did take care of me, I am so grateful.
