laundry soap

hello i have a problem when i make my homemade laundry soap. after i dry the clothes and we wear them they start to smell after we sweat a little bit. I never had this problem with store bought. I started making homemade about a year ago and stopped due to the smell i really want something natural as i am making our house "natural". I made a batch and used some in a load last night and already my husband asked if i had made more because his shirt smelled. I have bought soap nuts and just reasently used those to so im not sure if they have an odor afterwards?? anyone else have this problem?

I have problems with the soap nuts. And we do cold wash and air dry. If it recurrs I would make the load slightly smaller. The soap nuts rinse COMPLETELY. I actually don't do the rinse anymore cause it is redundant. Though if the smell persists I might try an extra long wash cycle just so all the sweat is getting off. Perspiration is odorless-it only smells when it mixes with bacteria on the body and grows. So the smell must be coming either from leftover gunk on the clothes.Anyway-try the soap nuts-they are great.

Where do you buy your soap nuts?

You can buy soapnuts from a website. Cant remember the name; you can google it and find it. I use them as well and love them I found mine at a Natural Foods store.

You should be able to add more borax and have it come out better. The borax helps soften the water (hard water makes real soap curdle and leave a bad residue)... I gave up on real soap laundry detergent for the moment because our water is hard.
Oh, vinegar in the rinse cycle is really good for removing residue and killing germs. And the clothes do NOT smell like vinegar when they dry.

ya we use vinegar. well it is probably the water because we live in the city and the water has so much chlorine in it it will give you a headach. anyways are there any good brands of laundry detergent that dont have all the chemicals and still cleans like the others? tia
